The plan is to go over it again with finer paper, probably 120 and 240 grit, but I'm wondering if I should seal it with something first, some thin PVA or varnish to soak in a bit and stick all the fibres down, before I continue sanding?

Shellac, a very light thin coat of proper shellac.

He fessed up a while ago he just couldn't live without the driving , or she said " GET OUT FROM UNDER MY FEET ! "

Not so much missing driving, more a case of being bored senseless driving to the same place every day, staring at the same 4 walls every day, doing the same job every day, and having to spend break times with the same guys who wittered on incessantly about the same banal drivel every day.

Driving a wagon might not be the most perfect job out there but it's a damn sight better for me than working in a warehouse will ever be, and being back with North Yorkshire's finest heavy haulage company gives me plenty of variety.

Done the stainless handrail round works reception this morning.

All been decorated, and veneered ply panels replaced with new frosted glass panels.
Piece of cake using decent handrail systems.

Never heard the word used anywhere other than home so I presume it's a Sheffield-ism.

Well, built my Tranclement for the Tig welding set today, amongst other jobs:
First up, picture frames:



Then made a cube:

Will get it finished off tomorrow (I hope) as I want to build some "features" into it.

Then, before we locked up for the night I helped my pal put a delivery away, thirteen ton and no overhead crane. The little dolly, pinch bar and blocks and slings, started at five, finished two and a half hours later:

One end balanced on the little trolley the other end hanging off a fork each bundle is a couple ton, end of the day and needed to be really alert and conscious of where my feet and fingers were at all times, it certainly focuses the mind:

It's a bit of an obstacle course but my pal has to work with it all now and where he is going to stack the finished parts is a bit of a mystery.

Bit of plumbing, only took two years to get around to it, and all afternoon to actually do it.




Tomorrow's job is to stop it leaking, only the joint closest to the plastic roof I spent ages trying and failing not to melt needs doing again. I've got an Antex Pipemaster somewhere, pretty sure they're crap but maybe this is just the job for it.

Finished the Tig welder set trolley today. Hands up all those of you who have never dropped a clanger.... Ahh, thought so. I find in these situations the best way forward is just stick your hands up, admit you dropped a clanger (if to no-one else do it to yourself) and crack on and fix it I had made the opening too small, Lesson re-learnt do not change a design half way through by introducing a tray into the top it made the gap too small. I was invested in it now so nothing else for it, add metal:



Firs, cut the legs:



All of them, as square as possible:



Then add 50mm, it was as easy to add this as it was to add the 30mm I was short, good recovery I thought:



Then with some dangly bits hanging off the side and a lid on the top:



There are gusset plates on the base already drilled and tapped so the castors should screw straight on ( I hope ). Off for powder coat now, plenty on and you won't see the join!

Unfortunately I have a fair bit of forge work atm.
This is to keep a stone lintel in place as it’s started to move,something sympathetic to an old lodge house.

Finished this today as a birthday present for my Mum's birthday. Anyone got an inkling what it might be?

Made out of birch plywood, beech dowels, a lump of beech for the feet and (obviously) some brass for the knob. Everything else is off-the-shelf hardware.
