Yes, if the package can't withstand being dropped from a height of 1m on to a hard surface without damage (that's a bare minimum) then the problem is with the packing, not the courier.

Personally I feel that they are both to blame.

It pays to help out delivery drivers, while I wouldn't condone throwing stuff over fences it must be a nightmare for them to be asked to deliver stuff to an address and then not be able to access a safe spot at the premises to leave stuff. When you are expecting parcels and are in the premises I don't think it unreasonable to unlock a gate so they can get in. They need their van free of parcels for pickups, it is a waste of their time manhandling parcels multiple times.

I've had at least half a dozen packages from myhermes this week, I had emails for each of them prior to arrival for me to track and giving options to divert if required. Emails within a few minutes of delivery showing exactly which part of the house it was delivered to and a photo showing the parcels on my property. I must say although we pay a bit extra for myhermes to deliver here (£2 per parcel) the service from their local partner courier agency is first class.

No email was received, so there was no way of knowing which day (or week) it was going to arrive. Invariably an email is sent prior to delivery. S

The courier when you book their service, usually, as part of the conditions. That's why they have packaging guides.

I've used Hermese to send an item but not seen anything relating to dropping a parcel on to a hard surface from xyz distance. Maybe things have changed since I used them.

I always wrap my items very well, regardless of the company I use. It's common sense to do so, but not everyone has common sense.

I think you have misunderstood . The idea of putting a card through the mail box is for when the delivery guy has tried to deliver and failed for whatever reason, and has taken the parcel away. In that example, how else would a customer know? The cards left by some courier firms have details of their local depot where the customer can collect from. Royal mail operates a similar system.

But given the driver has been paid peanuts to drive to you, they are going to do everything not to have to come back again.

I have a secure location listed as my delivery address - its failed once in many years when someone left a package outside it, rather than in it.

I thought Dixons bought Currys in the early 80s?

Difficult to make out from the picture, but is that a padlock on the gate?

I looked out of the window this morning and 2 items had been thrown on to the drive. Not only is the driver stupid, but also too lazy to put a card through-my mail box is on the outside of the gate.

One of the items an AC to 12v transformer which has electronic components inside, that I assume should not be thrown on to concrete. NO packing, just a thin box. Bent transformer case on one corner. I am not even going to try it, because it may pack up next week due to the above rough handling.

I have requested a prepaid shipping label from the seller to enable me to return it. Not my responsibility to go on the 'merry go round' trying to communicate with Hermese. I would have rather paid £3 postage and been happy for the seller to use R Mail-our guy is excellent. The e bay sellers don't always tell you the method of shipping. I will ask specifically before buying in future.

The other item-a COB led bulb is working ok, and fortunately had a bit of packing round it.

You can fix cateracts on eyes with lazer treatment , you can get breast implants, facelifts etc but you can't fix stupid!

If you are expecting deliveries that will not go through the letter box, or a safe place, or instructions on where to place or what ever,
I have no sympathy I'm sorry to say.
Delivery drivers have a hard enough time as it is,
Making 'things' easier at your end, may help yourself.

Yes that is correct. Once they had the name, all the Dixon shops were rebranded.

Must have had some slow rebranders - both were still around in my home town well into the 2000's - Dixons went in 2006 if the internet is to be believed. Currys still there, but now of town. You could walk out of one, up the street, cross over and go in the other for a long time.
