Not accepting Cash

I do volunteer hospital driving and most clients pay by cash. About once a month I have to shlep into town to go to the bank to pay it in.

I saw Toolstation are selling 'Sum Up' card readers for £28. Others must be available. I'm surprised the local beggar who sits outside Lidl hasn't got one.

That's £28 for a little plastic box with a computer chip inside it, value £0.99p. They make their profits on the commision and subscription fees.

What's that all about then? I went out for a meal recently and asking for the bill my handful of notes was rebuffed, sorry Sir, I can't accept cash. Why? Company Policy.
Now the last time I looked at the definition of theft it was to Deprive someone of their goods or reward, intentionally. Having themoney to pay the bill but this being refused where would you stand if you just walked away?

id switch the phone to record
then state to the person where is your signs saying card payments only
as they was no signs visable id be saying
well im sorry but your signs informing customers are not clearly visible ive only got cash on me that im only willing to use

that puts the refusal in there hands

if they then state we refuse to except cash

ask for the manager ask them if they are refusing cash payments if they refuse then

you have every right to refuse paying the bill with any other alternative method
would you like my address and contact details

do not fully refuse to pay the bill

you offer an alternative if they refuse that alternative
provide your address a police matter reference

remember you have offered to pay the bill with cash they have refused this payment without any clear visible signs take photos around you

then leave the building any issues they cant stop you using theft as you have offered to pay them for the meal
await the police by all means or do it at home

you cant be arrested for none payment either ( theft ) as you have made every attempt to pay them
they have refused your offer of payment

it works both ways you dont have to except full usage of cards without proper clear signs

1.69 actually, izettle is 1.6 from memory, think stripe is 1.4 plus 20p something like that

I used to have izettle but usually got a rebate due to transaction size

Stripe used to be a lot cheaper but it took 10 working days to get paid

Yes it sounds trivial, but it adds up to a lot with millions of transactions!
I'm not saying it isn't worth doing, if you are a small business, market trader, tramp, whore etc

Didnt know there were rebates, what is the threshold for that.

For invoices paid by cash you still get charged for the transaction even though they didnt handle the money.

Also with an izettle cash payments dont show in the data exports to excel only where money has been passed through them.

In the end with the economic woes at the moment refusing legal tender is cutting off an income stream. After all i would have thought money is money whatever denomination its in, cash or card. Personally if a place has a sign saying no cash some people simply wont go in there. Therefore they have lost business.

Not sure on the rebate threshold but if I took payment for a big job (£2k+) I always got a rebate so it must be around that?

Its how I think but............................................. None of the guys that work for me have as much as a shilling in their pockets, they all seem to pay for everything with their mobile phones. Cash will be about for a while or at least until the current oldies start to push up daisies, cash will undoubtedly get phased out. There is no easier way of harvesting info on every penny earned or spent,cash flies in the face of those that need/want this information.

This is all very good, getting card readers and effectively opening a merchant account for your business, they want to know what it is you are selling and the second I tell them what I do, the phone goes silent. Out of ALL the high street banks there is only Barclays will entertain me. To be fair they have been very good.

I suppose it’s up to them who they do business with but it doesn’t seem very fair.

Mrs1979 rates Barclays also for what it’s worth. She’s never had any issues. I’ve been through about 4 banks in the last 10 years as they either try to take the **** on fees or are just inept.

There was the case, locally, of the usual "Thinking villain" who was in Strangeways for robbery and while there planned his next caper. So when he got out he got himself "tooled up" with a sawn off shotgun and marched into the local Nat West. He pointed the gun at the young girl at the reception desk and handed her a bag telling her to fill it. "But we are a Doctors now". The Bank branch had closed whilst he was "away" and the building had become a doctors surgery.
This is exactly why they are criminals. No brains.

The criminals with 'brains' avoid getting caught, so we don't hear about them. They are delighted that the police, courts and prisons are busy dealing with retards who basically need psychiatric treatment, or birching.
