I think it’s a bit like the refusing £50 notes - it’s a condition of carrying out business or contract of entry or some such I can’t remember. Like a dress code in a nightclub. It’s a condition you agree to before you go in.

I share your view point though. If they aren’t illegal they should be.

Paying in cash, Sum up, izettle etc all have charges, selling online and getting paid by stripe has cost, everyone wants their cut. And their cuts all add up. At the end of the day all these small cuts increase the cost of doing* buisness, and it always ends up with the customer paying.

Cards nice for business expenses, large payments.

Cash is great for the many times you wish the what, when, where to remain only in your knowledge, not recorded anywhere. Nothing wrong with privacy imo, feels a lot like freedom.

was at a model railway exhibition at Stafford showground. Notorious for no mobile/internet signal. One trader wouldn't accept a guy's card saying 'cash only please' The guy went ballistic at the trader calling him a fraudster, con artist, tax dodger and every name under the sun. He didn't get what he wanted.

But the trader did not make a profit.

of course here in Yorkshire we like to make our cash go further, in the mid 1700's we locally had the crag vale coiners who used to snip the edge of coins and make their own counterfit versions. I recently went to a local musuem and the highlight of the trip for me was seeing the orginal counterfitting dies, they were found burried in the wall of a house
