Watching the episode where they do the Jag Sjs V12, and continually go on about electrical gremlins . Those who know will know
A proper crimp tool can be had for a tenner and lasts yearsI had this before at a workshop , Wire crimped onto a 3 phase motor connection and it came off in my hand. Went to go get a crimping tool and was told they didnt have any and were a waste of time to use plyers
I know , just mentalA proper crimp tool can be had for a tenner and lasts years
Those crimps are garbage. If I use them I cut the plastic off and solder them. HATE THE DAM THINGS.
No,ah ,,, not so fast , when I was working on a job not quite the same , but crimping lots and lots of crimps all one size , I filed a perfect crimp into the back of the jaws of my wire strippers , they were smaller than a full size set of crimpers and worked perfectly ,,, maybe hes done the same.
yep , totally true , but their use is widespread. No,
The type of crimp being used is the problem,
Anything plastic coated like those being used, will not crimp properly,
Yes, there are many, many YouTube videos showing how to make proper electric wire connectors, lol
Just take note of any OEM manufactured equipment, what do they do !
I respect your opinion, but I don't agree with pre insulated crimps,Hello Edward,
the pre insulated crimps are good used properly, that is what is used in industry and here is the key. They are sized for 1,5, 2.5 and 4? mm cable, if a smaller section cable is used as is common on vehicles you won't get a good crimp,
Vehicle manufacturers use the cheapest they can get and as I say vehicle cable sizes don't suit pre insulated crimps. Pre insulated crimps are also rather bulky relatively so not so good if space is tight.
I would add I am completely rewiring a classic car and using uninsulated crimps are a pain compared to pre insulated crimps.

My name for 'em seems to be spreading among those who care (and have watched me work) - "Bodgers' crimps".Those crimps are garbage. If I use them I cut the plastic off and solder them. HATE THE DAM THINGS.
Be warned... there are two different bullet sizes, Imperial and Japanese as used on their bikes (often in headlamp shells) - the Japanese are a fair bit smaller and sloppy in mating receptacles... The connectors too.. I have a set of these in the garage, I must find out where I can get some more bullets from.

I had a mate AN ELECTRICIAN who used the fXXking things all the time. The number of times I had to redo his awful work. Even in my small workshop which he wired for me. He wired the dam place 16 amp I had to complete the ring myself to make it 32. And I am no spark. My name for 'em seems to be spreading among those who care (and have watched me work) - "Bodgers' crimps".
