You need one of these. Place it on the throttle pedal to set the revs at 2000 in under 10 minutes it's warm and defrosted.

Would almost say get a moisture trap for the inside.
Reduce the humidity and helps to minimise fogging.

have you got the aircon / climate control on? Using it makes a huge difference as then the air has a very low relative humidty, and even if it's not so warm, it's better at evaporating the mist on the screen.

That’s what I do and it usually clears the mist from the inside too.

Hi Brightspark, I think you should check your thermostat is closing or it's bypass chamber is clear. If the engine has started well, heat is being produced that needs to be going into the heater core for demisting, not going straight into the top of the radiator.

Canadians are the experts in this field, for obvious reasons. It's normally 20 below at night in northern Alberta for three months of the year. Command start solves the icing up and demisting problem beautifully. Press the button on your fob from the comfort of your kitchen, finish breakfast and come out to a nice warm, ice and mist free car. Just don't forget to unplug the other must have accessory, the block heater that stops the engine oil turning to treacle so it will actually turn over. Anti freeze takes care of the radiator, it's a common misconception. A basic remote command start used to cost $100. Worth it, in spades!

I often take a 5L petrol can - fill it with boiling water - and leave it on the dashboard overnight. Screen nice and clear in the morning.

If you can get 240v outside easily then a 3kW fan heater safely mounted somewhere is the quickest way to get it warm in the morning. However, getting the windscreen properly clean first both inside and out plus applying something like rain x anti fog on the inside and rain x repellent on the outside should also help tremendously with the windscreen visibility/ease of clearing.

My van has a inbuilt webasto pre heater, turn the fan on to two push the heater button 15mins later roasty toasty with a steaming screen.
nice little touch for a 17yr old van.

I tried Rain X a few times. Great over 40mph no need for wipers. Sadly under 40mph the wipers just judder like mad. Great excuse for speeding though

Any idiot can sling an extension lead out of a window and across a public footpath, at a height to be a trip hazard.

I keep 3 large silica gel sachets in the dash of my van & they mostly stop the screen misting up overnight. Every so often you need to put them on a radiator for a few hours to dry out or as I do, have a spare set in the hot press to swap out.

Try cleaning the inside of the screen with rain-x, that should help.

And add in a timer relay too to latch it on for X minutes too if you like.

Just the heater matrix for quick defrosts or the engine block for easy starting and reduced warm up time.

Another option would be to transplant a coolant preheater from another car, they, once the car is started and it's switched on, it draws power from the alternator to preheat the heater matrix
