Can we assume (from to non-reply and a ’like’ to a sbsequent post) that the fork lift was operating outside its design/safety limits?

Forty years ago, someone, who was not so clever, lifted off a too-heavy part with one of the works‘ cranes.

He managed to free-spool the load as the crane jib buckled. But that little episode cost a great deal - both the crane and the very expensive part (that was bent and buckled such that it was irreparable) were written off.

Overloading on modern kit is no longer possible, by the use of load cells etc which will refuse to operate above the safety limit for the machine.

Talking to an old crane operator he said all the feel has gone out of the job with modern cranes and in some ways made them more dangerous!

I'm all for health and safety, don't get me wrong, I'm a professional. But the recent crusades on this forum in the name of H&S is really getting my back up. It's always when no-one knows the full picture, too.

I think it's safe to say when someone is spending £££££s of their own money on seriously large kit they know what they are doing.

I at no point felt unsafe.

Heavy rigging and awkward rigging isn't something I'm a stranger to, having cut my teeth rigging tree sections using methods such as an English reeve I can assure you that experience and competence greatly exceeds book learning, learn the physics then master the physical.
