Inverter Drives

I need to retrofit some bakery equipment which is using dozens of chains and variable speed cone drives.

So I need some quality, warrantied Inverter drives.

I've looked at Newton Tesla, not too bad a price at £215 inc VAT. Mitsubishi each.0

But is there a better name brand option?

Motors to be driven are 0.18kw 400v 1370RPM.

Will also need some gearbox options. May be easier to just buy new motors to get the right layout for the machine.

Aye fair play. Siemens inverters aren't cheap but SEW gearboxes/motors can be well priced sometimes.

Are inverter drives like variable speed drives or variable frequency drives? But you are looking for 1370rpm only?

Have you looked at danfoss or abb or are they out of your price range?

(most drives I man handle are ABB, danfoss, siemens and Mitsubishi) but I know nothing about them!

Ask the company where they are going to be fitted if they have any already. They may have a brand they already use, if not then go for a decent make that does what you need. Schneider, ABB, Siemens, Mitsubishi are all good, they all do lower cost models. Can you get away with a single larger drive feeding multiple motors, or does it need to be one drive/motor. How are you controlling them, do they need individual start/stop/estop circuits. If you are designing a system to be used in an industrial setting it needs to comply with safety regs, if you are not used to doing this then get someone in who knows what they are doing - you could end up in some hot water if things go wrong.

Think about programming options, sometimes they will do models with no display, they may be programmed from a removable keypad which stores the setup in, you can then transfer this from drive to drive which makes setting them up easier if you have a lot to do.

I recommend danfoss. No issues here.
If you can decentralize have a look at Nord drivesystems. Or SEW.

I can’t stress enough that if this is for a customer and not your own use you think about getting a company in to advise you and to get them to certify everything when done!! (Which will likely include things like CE certification or whatever it’s going to be called going forward if it’s modified from original, ensuring it complies with PUWER and the relevant electrical regs plus more I’ve probably not thought of).

The keypads are not really designed for everyday operation by sticky fingers, so figure remote controls into your work - they also give the flexibility to mount the VFD in a good place for the VFD and the 'go' button in a good place for the 'go' button.

Food places are keen on washing stuff down so IP ratings might also come into play.

I have a Newton Tesla on my 3ph pillar drill, came with all wired up with a 'pendulum' controller on a loom with very clear and concise instructions; excellent advice beforehand.
