so Duck and Pheasant season is upon us. Im very lucky this time as I have plenty days off to use up and am beating 3 shoots so am getting plenty time out and social interaction with like minded people. I find this especially important for my well being as Im still working from home, and barely get out of the house to socialise. It was the eldest who suggested I have a go and I really enjoy the days out.
Anyway after a couple of shoots I decided that if I was involved in its production, We would eat it, and with the help of youtube taught myself how to pluck and dress birds.
So this year again we will be fine dining on peking duck, roast duck and pheasant, and 3 bird roasts, with little food miles and little cost.
if you do fancy having a go at eating game, I would suggest now is the time to try it. They have been corn fed , and havent overwintered yet, so the birds have a good bit of fat on them.
Any good butcher or food hall will have locally produced birds in, and while they may be a couple of quid more than a tesco chicken are a lot better to eat.
