£10 a cutter wouldnt even cover the time cutting 2 teeth let alone 4+

That's exactly what I mean. It's not worth it to me for any more more, and it's not worth it to anyone else to do it for that little.

Although with a proper indexing head and set up for a particular size/teeth number, surely you could rattle a few out per hour? You'd do well out of the common cutters, but lose money on the uncommon ones...

how can you sharpen them on the mill? I have a fair few blunts ones. might be a nice winters evening job with a beer or 2

you can sharpen them on the ends on mill end cutters doing the flutes is a differnt matter

but i wouldnt want grinding dust near my milling machine same with the lathe

however you can do them in your grinder

in end up, i realised it was better to build a machine for it all something i could stick on its own movable table and do it outside in my case

Thomas Grahams will send them away for sharpening. And last time I had some bits done it was pretty cheap.

Has anyone made their own jig/ sharpener for these? Had a quick search but couldn’t find anything. I know they’re almost disposable as it’s about £15 to sharpen them vs £25 to buy plus all the waiting about but it’d be handy to accurately sharpen my own.

I do them at the moment with a bench grinder and they’re good enough but I’d like a better way of doing it. I’ve seen the various magic contraptions on eBay but would rather not buy one unless someone can actually recommend one they have.

My T&C grinder doesn't get much use apart from drill sharpening...

You'll get chatter. Every tooth needs to be an even height

I have a few cutters with chips in them and they still chomp through steel..i call these my "jobbing" cutters when doing none critical stuff. Ime sure dressing the edges with a diamond file carefully would not cause that much noticeable chatter, but what do i know i fix roofs

sod all to loose ill try anyway and use them as my jobbing cutters!
