interested in that hose? is it heat and fire resitant?. I have the nederman arm for the fume extraction, and pull it over to the table lift when I need to run any engines indoors, but there's always blow by and the garage gets fairly smokey if I have to run it for a while, made up a temporary lash up with a bit of aluminium gas boiler flue, and that worked ok, but would like to make up a more permanent solution. Something more flexible would be ideal, also like the mag mount too... nice idea..A Ferguson drawbar, early ‘50’s,still in daily use, can’t imagine anything from the past 20 odd years claiming that statement in the future.View attachment 312933View attachment 312934
That made me shed a tearThose of a sensitive disposition look away NOW!
We barely have enough metalwork vices in the workshop at school and certainly don't have any BSW machine screws so when a jaw fell out of a Record #2 vice and we couldn't find the screws there was only one solution... it isn't as if we'll ever be replacing the jaws anyway.

Took it home and used some stainless filler to TIG it on for good...![]()

I do understand your circumstances and I couldn't do your job. I also couldn't do that but glad you actually found a way to keep it in service!Yes, I can understand that'll grate many but it was sheer necessity; my job is to teach, not to fix workshop equipment (something I do too much of anyway, and we're under-resourced and constantly pushed as it is - needs must I'm afraid.

draw bar looks good too....
I would have made two BSW screws and bolted it back. None of mine have much paint and most definitely not shiny but if you have the tools and the time you can put things back as they were. I know and acknowledge @Tangledfeet does not have the time or resource to do that and I said as much. It doesn't stop me feeling sorry for the vice though!fair play to you, those that shed a tear maybe need to remember it's a working tool, not an ornament. Aye all shiny and painted, would suit the living room, yee gods, you should see some of mine, they're a tool like any other, they wear and they break and we repair........

it's kept operational, the kids continue to learn, good enough...
