I would have tapped it out to metric and used metric CSK screws.
I think that's what I did with my last record vice - only I made some new Jaws from stainless and used sunken cap screws.
But will it work? I guess it will hold for many many years of ham fisted students

Spent 3 hours today mending a cad program install on a friend's computer so he can finish some plans for a bungalow down the road. It was a painfully long drawn out process and the numb nuts he's doing the plan for will want it done for nothing He still doesn't know how he lost all the menus

We barely have enough metalwork vices in the workshop at school and certainly don't have any BSW machine screws so when a jaw fell out of a Record #2 vice and we couldn't find the screws there was only one solution... it isn't as if we'll ever be replacing the jaws anyway.

Took it home and used some stainless filler to TIG it on for good...

Ooohh..... I actually had a sharp jab of actual physical pain when I saw that.

I would have made two BSW screws and bolted it back. None of mine have much paint and most definitely not shiny but if you have the tools and the time you can put things back as they were. I know and acknowledge @Tangledfeet does not have the time or resource to do that and I said as much. It doesn't stop me feeling sorry for the vice though!

Agreed, and if you have the time, motivation, obviously it's better to repair and keep the tool in its correct form and function, however at the same time, you need to keep things in perspective, tools are not ornaments, they are for working. if I need to repair or adapt to suit the job in hand, I have no issues with that.
All for keeping machines correctly maintained and functional for accuracy and ease of function, but criticising someone who needs a working tool and adapts as necessary is a bit unfair.

I do understand your circumstances and I couldn't do your job. I also couldn't do that but glad you actually found a way to keep it in service!

Only had it 2 months,forgot the name,it’s british made,bought from essco,and very flexible.

Thanks, will have a look and see if I can find some. A couple of metres would be plenty, then I can fab up an adapter plate to clip onto the nederman and maybe a mag mount with a cone end to clip onto the pipe to more effectively capture the exhaust gas... Should make it a bit more confortable to breathe hahaha..

No, it's Nina's yurt. She lives there with her three kids, dog, currently 10 puppies, two kittens, four hens and soon to be a pony. Nina is our neighbour and Ivor is a yurt-warming (excuse the pun) present.

Fence energizer not working.
Now I know why.
Fuse blown. Power inlet socket broken and full of ant nest.
No problem clean out solder and some silicon to seal the wire inlet holes so the ants can not get in again

Fixed the old DRO system to the Centec (finally!). Only had to cut one scale and make a new "slimmer" cover for it.

Made a new bottom for one of my small Tecalamit oil guns, the old plastic one had cracked.

Our Panda169 MY 2010 had a hosepilar broken off from the airfilterbox, it was already repaired once by a previous owner.

So made the hole a little bigger and threaded

Found a nice short hosepillar

Made a hex on it

Mounted with loctite,
The messy stuff was really hard to get off so just left, it no one will know.
