You can get thermal adhesive though for bonding AND heat transfer.

Busy day yesterday, but productive.
To follow up on my post about Work lights and cable colours.
This lamp was donated to me and was given to an organisation I help with.
This and the others were used yesterday to set up a "How to do.." folder.
115v work light.
This one was chosen as a good example.
115v, not working, safety guard damaged, refactor not shiny and glass dirty.
Good example of how the lamps will fail. They have cooked off.
Replacements were found in 240v flavour.
This picture should paint 1000 words, but in this case only 250.
The issues are:
Broken lamp holder, the contacts are burnt out and the cable connected to it shows signs of burn out. Megga testing showed the insulation was down to KOhms. So this lamp was moved to "Parts only" pile.
Lamp 2 was better.
The toughen glass did not clean up at all. So I robed the better one from lamp 1.

Sorted.
It has the PAT label fitted here now. Oh That did cause a "Discussion"
This was done at my play pen. So I could get pictures I did the same as I did at the other workshop.

The conversion to 240v from 115v means I can start using some of my plug collection.
The plug/socket in the bottom LHS was removed from a donated table saw.
I kept it as I found it a curio from times gone by.
A good example of a plug I removed from a B&D drill.
Nowt too wrong with it.

Nice tool.
But in need of TLC. A nice project.
But dismantling it showed a few issue..
The blade was so rusted it was not usable, the slide wedges were shot with worm. Leading to the main body being damaged.
But the big issue was a broken screw and one with the head damaged. All due to rust seizing them into place.
The keened eyed member will spot the scraper plane from a while ago.
A jig was made to hold the body rigid. This allowed me to drill the screws out. Then using a taper spoon bit open them out to a taper hole.
Beech wood dowels were glued into place. They were cut flat and a pilot hole drilled.
Assembled, new old screws blend in nicely.
The finish.is white shelic dissolved into white spirit and wax.
It was not good, so it had to be removed and re done with a decent French polish.

Yesterday was a busy day. But educational for a member of MIS. A good member who mucks in and tries his best.
Like a lot, he uses the WWW to help him learn.
Yesterday was a good example of watching You Tube does not make up for you for doing the job.
This is a good reason why the donations I get help more than one.
Important items, bottom LHS.
A chisel and a gouge. I have 2 more gouges as well.
As a lot know getting an edge on a gouge is difficult, but You tube makes it look easy.
His first attempt on a gouge. But to get here there was a few steps.
1. I cut down some steel tube and made a rough version of a 1" gouge. This allowed a few goes and getting the edges on with a powered Wet stone.
2. It is not easy, a few coffees were needed.
Once the practise was good enough He was let loose on a donated tool.
Step one was to copy the ground angle on the blade. Top most shiny bit. By leaving the blade rusty it gives a very good visual of how you are doing.
The lower shinny part is the cutting angle. Unlike a wood working chisel this angle can vary to suit the angle of cut.
This is one of the reasons why gouges are difficult.
Three gouges sharpened and finished. Again many thanks to the kind member here.
Now, to the left was an interesting chisiel. The cutting edge is at an angle.
This is not a mistake. It was done this way.
Ground angle is 20deg, cutting angle is 25deg.
This was done this way to allow me to cut into a rebate on a tool that is in the process of being restored.
The handle is not restored, may not be.
The gouges handles are finished with warm linseed oil.

Replaced the chain on my mate's 2.1 Sprinter. Chain's at the back, so engine and box out, then split them. 14h start to finish, we were done at 1am.

My sister won a couple of LED lights for her kitchen at a charity auction. They were missing the brackets and of course the old bracket didn't fit!
Another chance to practice TIG welding. Blew through the first bit figuring out the current. Does the job though.

This weekend I recommissioned my machine shop, made some spiders homeless, I cleaned, levelled, lubed the mill and lathe, cleaned out/renewed the suds, fitted an airline reel to the ceiling which will reach both. Now on to the cold saw and drill.

Turned our Dyson into a smouldering pile of non-functioning Vacuum Cleaner. Not very popular at the mo. Any suggestions which replacement to buy? Ideally I'll get a used/refurb one. I assume Greta has demanded that all are now low power???

The original Dysons were good, new ones not so good. Our first one lasted years, replacement one didn’t last long. Replaced that with a vax, warranty ran out and it died too. Now onto a shark, couldn’t pull the skin of a rice pudding - pathetic. It’s a stupid design too, it can’t stand up by itself. You have to lean it against something or lie it on the floor. Glad I didn’t buy it, down to swmbo
