"It was initially feared that the introduction of the ULEZ would effectively ban classics from central London – causing havoc for owners who live in the area and possibly even leading to the cancellation of some classic events such as the London to Brighton Run.
Fortunately, following a campaign by Classic & Sports Car, among others, the decision was made to grant exemption to historic vehicles.
What this means in practical terms is that if your classic is more than 40 years old and is registered for the historic vehicle tax class, you will not need to pay the ULEZ charge.
It’ll work the same way as the new MoT rules introduced last year, which takes the cut-off date as exactly 40 years on a rolling basis."

If you have a Classic its not an issue...
If you have a "Modern Classic" ...

Simple answer is never, ever, under any circumstances go inside the M25.

Birmingham and Bristol are not allowing an exemption to Historic Vehicles.
Edinburgh the situation is unclear if they are or aren't allowing an exemption.

don't spend it in these places.

I used to go into Birmingham once or twice a month for a night out or a day shopping. Not anymore they want £8 just to enter the centre for either car. And probably double that for parking. Thanks but no ....

Don't take it to heart. I was born and raised in Dublin, but despise the place now. I had to go into the city centre a few weeks back, and i was like Homer Simpson trying to escape from New York, couldn't wait to get out of it. If the Russki's were looking for somewhere to detonate another Tzar Bomba, they could do it over Dublin.

Luckily I regularly experienced the 1am high speed dash from the bottom of the M11 across Tower Bridge, Elephant & Castle to Clapham common in a GT6 during the early '90's before anyone really cared.

In the early 90’s I used to commute daily from Wantage to Dagenham - M4, A4 down Piccadilly, Trafalgar Square and A13 - in an all white XR3i cabrio . No cameras, good job too - I was young and a bit less of a responsible citizen then.

Technically we live in Birmingham, about 6 miles south of the city centre, can't remember the last time we took a car in, if we have to go we will park the car for free in a side road and catch a bus.

Same here, I don't mind a trip into town but if there is a price to pay they can keep it.

I moved to Birmingham from the Black Country about 20 years ago so have a different accent to a Brummie

Oddly enough we had a family friend in the 70's who was a language student, he said I had the least noticeable accent out of 5 of us.

Just do the same as us, park on a side road of one of the main arterial roads (in our case the A38) and catch the bus, although you would have to be desperate to visit the city centre these days
