Why do you need so many tungstens?

As I think I made explicitly clear in my original post I made the original device as an example to others, others that just might perhaps contaminate their tungsten through poor technique and shaky hands, to show just what could be done so I thought I'd follow up with this simpler alternative. My generosity and selflessness knows no bounds, see?

I never, ever, dip and contaminate my tungsten when TIG welding - obvs. In fact there's actually only one actually tungsten in there - the rest are bits of 2.4mm stainless filler cut to random lengths and a wee bit of Sharpie at the end for realism.

That's an alternative solution, I concur. But if I'm I'd imagine that if you're 'in the zone' and the worst happens just being able to simply swap tungsten is easier...

In the picture below. Top LHS are two Stanley Yankee screwdrivers.



At first glance they looked ok.
The extended, they pumped.
But The bits were stuck fast. Turns out with glue.




This handle was set up to be striped and cleaned, but what the picture does not show is the split, the filler and the staples.

The other handle was as bad.



So, some beech, from a friends Fire wood pile was liberated. Turned down into new handles.

Test fitting here.

Fitted after paint.
2 more tools saved.

Everything in the top picture, bar one tool was restored.

The oil stones were very dirty.






So they were boiled up in washing soda for 2 hours.


The wooden cases were cleaned and waxed.

2 of the stones were curved, turns out they are knife stones, from a kit.

Made a bar clamp for my mate's motorbike. It's milled from a small slab of delrin and the top clip is swappable for either his GPS or his mobile phone. It clamps onto the top bar of the windshield subframe.

Rolled a curve with my tube rollers, cut it through where the curve changes direction, flipped the ends over and welded them back together.

Made a start on the workshop belated cleanup, not had a proper dung out/restock/wipedown in twenty years.

Cleaned up my trusty rusty slotted table, removed half of Surrey from the slots and gave it a large portion of scotchbrite, brake cleaner and maintenance spray.

About eight hours of putting away, at least a gallon of brake cleaner/elbow grease and it scrubbed up ok. Just need to go down the other side now

Made this door the other day, dropped it in for galvanising Tuesday night and had it back and fitted today very pleased. Just need to establish how I’m going to clad it now.

It’s East Midlands galvanising. Part of wedge group. I used them before for my landy stuff. Really impressed this time with their speed.
