That's not all the wax from 2 hives, just some of it.

Add for those that don't know ........ the volatile oils from bees wax are highly flammable & at hotter than boiling water temps can/will self ignite , use a non flame heat source such as an electric hot plate & a Bain Marie set up and don't leave it unattended for any reason unless you turn the heat off and move the containers to a cooler surface out of strong sunlight .

Plus years of beekeeping .....
If you melt good newish wax or are uncapping sealed stores on a warm day over 50 oC, a gentle soft breeze & with the room's windows & doors open you might get zillions of bees coming to investigate the honey & oil scents released ....

Like wot I did when I had 24 hives within 100 yards of my open door honey room in my cellar.

Made some piles of stainless, and also made some holey plates. (had help with the plates). 20mm bad Bois, way overkill, 12 would have done... But we paid someone else to make that decision!

Silver, hall mark says so.
The green is from the copper pipe it was under.
I do like to rummage in box's at salvage yards.
Where there is muck, there is brass.

Beside, if it was plated, after that cleaning metod it would not be shinnnnnnnnny, or in use.

So what are the hallmarks? I can look them up in my Bradbury hallmark book which will give the year and maker and assay mint where it was made

A horse fly trap

The inverted bucket has a lid, which has a hole with the top of a PET bottle hot glued to it, the horse flies are supposed to get trapped in there.

Do you bait it with anything? Just wondering what makes them go in. I’ve seen ones for wasps with beer in.

The black ball gets hot and horse flies are attracted to dark hot things, they see in IR I believe. Probably reminds them of a horses ass... To boot they have this behaviour that when they launch they always go upwards first, getting trapped in the cone until they make their way into the bucket. That's the idea anyway I will have to see how it works. It's basically a copy of a commerical model though.

Yes, if you have a welder capable of it and understand you need to be in spray transfer for a sound weld. That means 3mm sheet is a min thickness, better not going below 4 if possible. Unless of course you have a pulse mig, then you can go 1mm if you want

Ok,
A little more involved than 'communal garden' mig welding,
Plus a higher spec welding machine would be required

Made the passenger seat in my van spin round today. From this:

And I'm somewhat pleased that by slightly elongating the holes on the mounting brackets the seat swivels without needing sliding rails .

I also made more work as the plastic cubby hole between the seats had to be permanently removed to allow the seat to swivel:


Soon to be replaced by a more functional wooden version, possibly housing a blown air diesel heater.

Had a play at TIG welding this afternoon and it occured to me that it might be useful (for some) to have a wee rack for their tungstens should they dip and contaminate it; this never happens to me, obvs, but I thought I'd make an example just to show what could be done. Happened to have a block of aluminium kicking about, so eight holes later...

Please feel free to use this design, royalty free, as I thought some might need more than one tungsten if they're doing a weld longer than a few inches...

I think I've come up with an alternative solution... arguably one that might be a wee bit safer? Happened to find an (unused, before anyone asks) urine sample container, courtesy of NHS Scotland...
