Well done it looks good, the only thing I would have added cause im an over builder is added a couple of bits of angle pieces here, on both sides

I know nothing about this sort of thing, but I would have done exactly the same

I would have done it the verticals were butted on the top of the horizontal members.

I think as he has saddled the verticals it is providing strength along both its flanges so no need for a gusset. That is my take anyway

One can but try, and do ones best, God knows my welding improved, but I can still see where I've fluffed up. Honestly never done that much electrode sinking into metal before. Interesting, another couple of weeks and I might have nailed arc welding, but I've only ever used 6013's so should probably exp element with other flavours, and some issues with undercut when filleting? Position ? Too many amps?

Yeah, made a change from the normal routine.

And been very 'advantageous '....

Nothing beats hood time for nailing the technique I've heard. Same boat as you with 6013 feel like i should try some 7018 now my welder can run them whats the worst that can happen

Ahh, that made sense.

I managed to kill an air pipe, by blowing liquid metal at the pipe, it didn't like that.

Yes, but, four days solid melting rods, wasn't too bad, but I had a bit of slag explode this morning, a small blob went straight through the leather glove, burning my finger and melted part of my finger nail.

Most unpleasant, and the muscular aching, from kneeling, or holding rods in odd positions alot.

Interesting though.

Went back today, to finish off the bit i'd overlooked / forgotten.

It had been moved and partially painted.

I'd asked if they could get the 3ph arc welder to it. They hadn't, so I borrowed their 200 amp inverter, and needed 50m of extension câble, here the problems started.

It ran fine at 200 amps, for about 40 seconds, then it tripped out the 16 amp socket tripswitch at the junction box.

Long story short, ended up wiring an extension câble directly Into a 3ph tripswitch with a neutral.

Bisch, Bosch, bang, got most of the welding done, before I grilled an extension câble. At which point I gave up.

I've said if they want more weld on it i need thé 3ph arc, and the trailer back where it was.

It's their choice.

Well, we discussed again, those x sections to brace the length, but once it's covered in 25 cm x 25 cm wood U bolted to it, we think it should be fine.

You need a certain amount of flex in these things otherwise you get stress which causes problems.

if you ever follow an hgv flatbed they’ve a hell of a twist. The unimog has a three point mount to allow for even more twist. It’s quite impressive.

I skinned out the back doors in our van to make it a camper. Before I did so I made up a rough thing with a sharpie on an arm fixed to one door. Took it for a spin and when I got back there was quite an arc. +_ 15mm ish if I recall. Had a bit of work to allow the body to move and not be affected by my blocking the back end up.
