These bearings have a protruding cage, so I might need a stepped driver. Old bearing sacrificed, cut the cage off and die grinder to give the ID clearance. A waste of time.

Spindle in freezer for few hours. Heated this lump to 130c and put new bearing on top for a couple minutes. I calculate 120c should give me 0.049mm clearance? (35mm* 11.7 * 120c / 1000000, is this right?)
It dropped straight on with no problem.

Now to fit the rest..

As do I. I'm quite pleased with it. I was nervous about how to do the roof but I'm glad it came out as well as it has. It has a 50mm- nothing over 3.7m

nope wood and steel. @Welderpaul helped me out doing the steel structure.

Some of them were made out of "conveyor belt" type material.

And Lotus there were at least 2 different rubber variants

Didn't Triumph and Hillman use these back in the 60's and 70's?

Istr there was a real difference in life expectancy between OEM makes of the same doughnut.
Also, iirc, some Lotus owners fitted the much cheaper Hillman doughnuts and found it wasn't worthwhile trying to save the few quid.
However, there WAS a readily available cheaper doughnut that lasted well, but it's probably long gone by now.
I'd not be surprised if the only ones available now are either crab or over-priced, with the economies of scale gone way down.
