Got anywhere yet?
Didn't get the gas until late afternoon. Will have a go tomorrow when I've read the helmet instructionsI would have hoped for some weld pictures by now at least.
Wot, you read instructions!Didn't get the gas until late afternoon. Will have a go tomorrow when I've read the helmet instructions
My eyesight ain't the best as it is, don't want to risk it getting any worse. LolWot, you read instructions!
If thats the case to tig weld, id suggest you wear what ever eye wear you use for reading the instructions under the helmet to tig weld. If you cant see whats happening at the pointy end in the puddle you will really struggle. My eyesight ain't the best as it is, don't want to risk it getting any worse. Lol
ah cool, was hoping for something 4/5mm and definitely under 6mm .The thicker the better 3mm at least will handle a bit of abuse and stay relatively flat for a while. 1.5mm will just annoy you.
i was thinking more of a removable topper for my workbench, something i can stand against the wall when not in use, weld some box section to the bottom of the sheet to add stiffness and heat isolation from my wood workbench tops.6mm is a nice working surface. If you can make a box section frame as flat as you possibly can, and then bolt the surface to the frame with countersinks/threading from the underside, you've got a really practical stiff and flat surface to work from. Thicker and heavier you go, the better, in my opinion.
ok, bolting it is.Welding to the sheet will just warp it.
Trust me, or the countless people who have tried to make a flat bench and failed
I'd make the frame as I described but make it a removable bench topper like you want.
maybe my plans on size were a little overkill/ambitious. I was thinking the depth of my workbench 675mm by about 1000mm long. Maybe I should scale back a bit.
The bigger the better, within reason That size of worktop is really quite handy for lining stuff up properly.maybe my plans on size were a little overkill/ambitious. I was thinking the depth of my workbench 675mm by about 1000mm long. Maybe I should scale back a bit.
10mm n the size i was thinking would be too expensive at the moment, got no money left after my week-long spending spreeThe bigger the better, within reason That size of worktop is really quite handy for lining stuff up properly.
where do you buy your steel? jst wondering where the best local place might be to get a little sheet for my needs. That was made from scraps at a mates place. Enough for a little clamping station for a starting point. I will be building something bigger but most other stuff I do on the floor
