Well when I say scrap pile, it's the not for scrap pile, beams were cut out the gable of a shed so the building can be modified.

After far too many hours scraping, grinding, Roloc flap discing I finally made it to bare metal. Today it was warm enough to roller and brush epoxy primer. In a couple of days I'll give it another coat.
Then I have to finish scraping the underside ready for more primer.

I'm quite pleased with this quick and dirty prototype I quickly cobbled together after work an hour or so ago.

The GPPH welding table I bought late last year has 28mm holes rather than the more normal 16mm found in most offerings, and this has drastically limited the availability of hold down clamps. I turned some dogs/stops that work well but aside from a couple of small G-clamps I didn't have anything to hold work down - so I bought a cheap 6001 bearing (12x28x8mm) and cut the fixed end off one of my cheap Lidl F-clamps and welded the upright to an M12 bolt.

Works so well that I think I'll get some better quality F-clamps and try some cheap 63001 (12x28x12mm) as the extra bearing thickness should minimise the tilt of the bearing in the hole as the bench is 8mm thick - don't have the access and time to get to a lathe at work at the moment.

Connectors soldered on the bigger coil. It took me ages to find a suitable former for it, a horse radish jar was perfect.

Got the top welded on this top half of a tank, and the seam hammered ready for polishing.... plus the cladding cone on the bottom half.

Not made today,just checked,more of the restaurant frame,this is the main portion of the roof,on the top left ,are the 100/50 box members of the Brie solleil,the rest that sit 90 degrees to them are 6.3m long,but have already been galvanised,the tapered beams I showed off before are at the top of the photo.

Turned a pair of brass m8 fine grub screws. I had just finished cutting and filing the screwdriver slot on the second when the thing ******** off under the tool cabinet. I saw it bounce. It is nowhere. Spent longer looking than it took to make it.
I did find a parting insert, few insert screws, a transfer screw, small lump of brass and a few other useful bits.

Yep, this morning M6 stainless bolt disappeared under a marine generator, spent two minutes trying to find it then drove across village to workshop, eventually found, cut down, something similar, only twenty minutes over a lost bolt.

Customer come in with a cast iron hedgehog head he had dug up in his garden several years ago and wondered if I could make some sort of plaque to mount it on so he could hang it up. This was the result I came up with.

The steel is actually a section I cut out of a narrowboats gas locker due to the heavy pitting but though it would suit something like this.

I was curious how you got the rusted effect, thanks, you answered my question, before I asked it.

Therefore it is worth saving rusty metal, good excuse !
