Almost finished, 60mm dia shaft turned down to 2" at end and 1/2" keyway. Then 200 mm long X 18mm keyway. Still have to chop to length and put the last keyway on the end but had enough for the night so can wait until tomorrow.

Well here is what i made yesterday, well finished two hours ago, a gift just in time for mothers day.
All stainless steel again .5mm sheet 5mm rod and stainless .8 mig wire for the stamen

I got this set of Animal castration pliers.
Here they are seized, one handle I split, the other has worm holes.
A week in citric acis had the rust almost gone.
Here I am drying the metal out and getting some heat into the joints.
Cleaned up.
The joints were heated and oil was worked in.
The old handles were removed and added to the wood pile.
The finish is wax and linseed oil, applied when the metal is warm.
New handles and more wax/oil.
Now I need a volunteer to test them out on..

Got this Mill Stone Dressing tool the other day. For the only reason is I didn't have one.
But..........
It was full of worm holes.
So, striped it down. Then a lot of worm killer.
Sadly this image does not show how bad the metal is and how far the worm has gone.
Getting the worm treatment in.
A good trick is to soak it well, then wrap it in cling film, so it doesn't dry out or drain out.
The wood was also given some wood hardener and the holes filled.
This picture shows the holes being filled.
The RHS is covered with 2 pack filler and brown stain, it does dry lighter. The LHS shows the access filler removed and the wood sanded.
The metal work was original, but in a bad state. De-rusting or power tools would of left me with no metal work.
So I cook it, turning red oxide to black oxide.
When the metal is still warm I coat it with bee's wax and linseed oil.
Finished, new edges dressed on the blade.
Due to the worm damage and the rust it is now a show only tool.
The knowledge I gain from your posts TYA is amazing, and the stuff you come across is jealousy inducing... and now I want a mill dressing tool for no other reason than I know they exist and I don't have one.

Finished welding up the frame for my pseudo 'tool wall' and made a bracket to mount it on the back of the old bureau; took some sash cramps and harsh language to get it screwed on the rear if it single-handedly.
Annoyingly the spanners have become magnetised and rather than hang perfectly vertically on their screws they swing towards each other and congregate - only bugs me because I spent so much time spacing them out!
Looks good though.
