how to remove a steel drum from a aliminum surround

Been trying for the last week,
tried heat, tried soaking tried anger!
it is a winch free spool drum on a warn winch whick is in a aliminum housing.
I had to drill all of the M8 bolts out because they would not move freely in the ali frame.

no the big drum in the middle is steel it is suppose to move on in and out to engauge and diengage the spool to allow winch in or free spool. the rest is ali

You need to heat just the aluminium up mate and keep the steel cold.

Can you set it up to accept a grease fitting?

Pump it out or fill it up and knock it out with a {sealing} punch and hammer.

As Brad suggests, if you're going to use heat, you need to chill the steel inner (with ice) and heat the outer aluminium only. Or bung the lot in the freezer and just heat the outer.

Fill the middle bit with ice and salt, it will be a lot colder.

Place the outer part in a pan of oil and heat.
Do it in a well ventilated area.

Keep the middle part full of salt ice water.

Nylon-tipped prodder on an air chisel or SDS drill. Sustained vibration not brute force.

Not really no not without drilling and tapping the case then i would need to do it in.a few places I am.sure

You would only need one grease fitting. Can't see the back of the thing you're trying to extract the spool from but if it is sealed, grease will push it out and if it's not sealed, you can use whatever aperture is already there.

Tremendous amount of pressure from a grease gun and over that area it would definitely shift it!

Bung it in the oven on full heat for half hour ,,, bring it out and let it cool , repeat a few times and then see how you get on , may do some good and its non destructive, before trying anything too extreme.

Bing the lot in the oven for a couple hours, take out and spray the steel with some of that freezing spray, might contract it locally enough
