I get on alright with my Safire. Have a couple and they do the job. I used a victor once which was nice. I have big hands and it just felt nice to hold. Made by Esab now?

Old school here, last firm I was at had Victor torches, that was years back, though; I always preferred them to BOC. I could never fault Victor plate nozzles, they always produced a good, clean cut.

You never know the condition of used equipment.

buy an ESAB blowpipe for £40-50 or buy a new Harris from the likes of rapid welding.

Hello I bought a Harris injector torch for acetylene now, and I have selected a tip I wanted to use for the material I wanted to cut, which is 0-10mm tip. Harris recommends between 0.015-0.02 acetylene pressure for low pressure and slightly more for equal pressure. Which one do I use and what does this mean? If I was to set it at 0.015 bar pressure like it says on the reg with gas coming out of the nozzle, would the gauge be pointing around where the needle is on the picture? Or where it says cut? Cheers for all the help.

Convert bar to PSI. 0.2bar is 3PSI

print out a conversion chart and laminate it i cant get to grips with bar pressures. just psi

PSI makes much more sense.

Low pressure is usually for alternate fuel gases.

I know the injector torches do permit lower pressure. What model is your torch and what’s the code on your tip?

We had a couple of harris cutting torches. They gave a beautiful flame. I tried to convince the monkeys in the stores to keep them away from the guys who couldn't burn but they just gave them out and the ends got cooked. Damn shame, they were nice to use.

I’d like a nice straight torch. For burning small circles onsite.

It’s a 00ac tip and torch is 62-5 acetylene torch

For that size nozzle I’d normally run about 4-5PSI of acetylene and 30PSI of oxygen. But you’ve got an injector torch and they say it can run lower. 0.2bar is about 3PSI I would start there. 2 bar of oxygen so 30psi.

That’s a nice torch, a bloody nice torch. Look after it and it will last you a lifetime.

It’s only real rival is the Victor bulldog torches but I don’t know if they’re as well made anymore I’ve not got my hands on a recent one

never tried victor, but mostly have used saffire. Have the No 5 mixer at the moment which is fine for the type of heating I'm doing (getting bearings etc out and general heat for removal of seized / abused whatevers). Have the cutting head for it too if I need lots of quick heat, preheat, bending / straightening etc. Bizarrely rarely use it for cutting, have plasma for that. The N° 5 is fine, a wee bit cumbersome sometimes especially with the great long nozzles, would prefer the smaller mixer / nozzles for more flexibility. Think it was the N°3 (if I remember), we had them as apprentices, great for fridge pipework and small copper brazing jobs, nice and light and get in anywhere...

aye maybe, for us it was never industrial works, just regular usage, fridge tube / general brazing and repair / heating etc, sort of all wee 10 minute jobs. I could see the benefits of heavier duty for the bears out on site cutting plate / beams etc every day... Saffire was all we ever had, so when I kitted up, I just went with what I knew. To be fair it's been fine for what I do...

In that case, I'm glad I hung on to all my Victor nozzles . . . all I need now is the burning gear to go with them.
