and all that grinding dust on the bed and in the chuck
Didnt say I did it, said it was quicker. Though I do confess to once using a flap disc on something in the lathe with it running. But I did cover the bed with fire blanket and it wasnt my lathe. We had shortened a half shaft for a trike, welded it up, spun it in the lathe to check it was straight. The sleeve wouldnt slide into place, didnt have heat, so the shaft got polished. Id have taken a cut but he had no tools worth using, only those garbage brazed on machine mart jobbies.animaland all that grinding dust on the bed and in the chuck

give the hacksaw a good rogering with cutting compound on and a mid speed on lathe and it wontA parting tool will slaughter a hacksaw in speed any day of the week, well assuming you have a decent parting tool and a lathe with some rigidity.
