I think you would be shocked if you knew just how much F1 gear gets made in Woking, not a specific team but the engineers that they all sub their work out to. Lots of Mercedes ,Renault and Ferrari F1 parts being made here in sunny Surrey

That was some race. George was brilliant - he could easily have put an unfamiliar car into the barrier or another car but went fast without any of that. Perez was running last on lap 1 so he did an amazing job.

F1 channel shows the races on youtube in a 5 minute highlight, then anything interesting they cover later in the week. I used to watch the whole thing on TV but often fell asleep half way through.

F1 drivers are amazing. I once did a vehicle assessment with John Miles (early '70s Lotus) driving. I was writing notes and they were neater than normal for passengering in a car. Looked up and we were sideways in a corner at about 120mph. That's smooth driving.

George Russell was obviously just about to jump in Hamiltons car and do what Hamilton does. Get a good start, lead the race from lap 1, drive off into the distance.

Because I take a sudden dislike to Lewis*, I find it compelling to believe the team might not want to annoy their "star" driver by making it look like "anyone" can do what he does. I find myself wondering how it might have looked different if that madcap conspiracy theory was true...

Mercedes certainly have previous form in unnecessary stops (just in case) ruining a race. I can't recall if that happened when someone clearly "decided" to give their Germanic hero Rosberg the title (we digress). The double stop certainly looks like an attempt to play fair with Russell but they "accidentally" give him Bottas' tyres, this inevitably puts Bottas ahead of Russell when they have to be switched back. But Russell still looks like he can easily win so he is called in for a "slow puncture" that is so slow Russell can't feel it, it has no effect on lap times until the team insist he comes in "just in case".

'Tis obviously a bit stinky and usually no team would ever ruin their race deliberately but Mercedes have already won everything this year. Rather than being the icing on the cake, a Russell win might have looked a bit too easy and more of a kick in the teeth to the other teams let alone the obvious embarrassment for Hamilton. Had Russell won as he clearly ought to have, I wonder what the paddock gossip would have been. Certainly not a positive affirmation that Lewis is winning everything because he is who he is.


*(he has betrayed my belief in him as a fan of his driving skill by assuming I will agree with his idiotic politics)

I think giving Bottas his old, knackered, tyres back somewhat shoots down any theory of deliberate tactics . . . never mind any suggestion they would ever - a team that has to answer to a board of a large corporation isn't going to get too far.

Russell, on Ch4, said he couldn't feel the puncture - so they did another lap, and he could feel it start to get squirmy on the straights, never mind the corners . . . ask Mansell how a puncture feels when you are going quite quick . . .

Much like Mansell when he arrived in Indycar, Russell was driving a car an experienced driver has already spent time working with his team to perfect - so the conclusion I draw is that the two of them have similar driving styles. Stick Verstappen in it, or Leclerc, who appear to be rather more "twitchy" behind the wheel, and I suspect they might not be so fast.

I'm not sure what went on here, but I can see why conspiracy theories are considered. Going back, I wouldn't have thought that as all teams want their drivers and cars to be top of the both championships - period. However, some years ago, a friend's son started working for a well known F1 team and I was surprised how two very good drivers in the same team could be treated so differently Nuff said!

You could not keep it quiet as too many would need to be aware. As for the puncture it would show on the data and George alluded to the fact it was feeling squirmy.

He has always wanted to. But he should have flown in yesterday to comply with the rules.
He has supposed to have been quite rough and as for as he obviously is anyone who has had it knows how tired it makes you feel ..
