Certainly not cheap, I think with materials and labour time (if my friend charged me his usual rate) it would've come out to over £750

I got this guillotine the other day.
Complete, but untidy. There was no makers name on it. But a few hours on google informed me it was a Photograph Trimming guillotine .
Possibly AGFA.
The confusion continues.
Deck markings are metric, but the nut and bolt are imperial.
But the ident. numbers match up on all parts.
The bolt looked shot. But the odd bit in the middle was machined. It to had a number stamped into it.
A set to with a thread file had it all good.
The cutting edge was sharp. Blood letting sharp.
It just needed a dress with a 15,000 grit stone.
As did the "shear edge".
The handle was cleaned and polished, button polish. There was the remains of a set of initials burnt in. I kept as much as I could.
It was refitted and glued on with sulphur.
The spring and the fittings were blacked.
All done.

The Number.
This was stamped on all the parts.
As I had the blackening kit out.
took the cobblers pliers, cleaned them up.
They needed some heat to get them opening fully.

I can attest to the blood letting abilities of these things, my Dahle [Vanguard model] drew blood when I just (very carelessly....yes, I've removed the guard
) brushed the blade when reaching for some paper. I didn't feel the cut but the amount of vital fluid I leaked was impressive! I've had it for more than 30 years and it still cuts like new.

I got this Railway shunter lantern. For one reason I liked it.
It looked liked it was from the 1960's.
It clearly was painted in the wrong colour.
But it was complete.
The light was the first hint that there was more to this.
It was an older pattern, but it was not unknown to use older ones.
Stripping the paint.
The blue was a pig to remove.
But underneath was RAF Cockpit Green.
Odd.
The final paint scheme was black.
All the paint was removed and masked up.
The light and tank was cleaned and a new wick. Then the brass and reflector given a polish.
All done.
But it is older than the 1960's. The light was in fact correct.
How do I know/
Under the blue paint and a smear of putty was this.

A pile of rusty items.
I knew this vice was a seized lump, used it to reduce the price.
When I got it home I had it moving, but I didn't get it to fully move.
I spent the week adding oil to all the fixings.
But that wasn't enough.
I also knew my oxy kit was never going to give enough heat. So I went and got something else.
That pumped in enough heat to allow the screw, handle and lever to be removed.
But the half nut and cage remained seized in place.
As well ass the moving jaw.
10 ton body jack.
The noise it made was "interesting." But it did move it. I had to add more heat.
The half nut and cage were being held by rust and some sort of grease and metal filings.
When it fell out the fixed jaw was hot enough to boil spit.
In bits.
The heat also had the jaws loose and free to be removed.

..except I didn't actually do the making bit, just the easy assembly!
A week or so ago I asked if someone had some specific taps and tapping drill to make some sleeves; @RichardM not only did but also very kindly offered to make me a couple of brass sleeves so i could make some scribers from surplus torch consumables and tungstens. They were waiting for me this afternoon when we got back from a short break away for my 50th.
I bought some 3.2mm tungstens and comsumables when I bought my first TIG welder a few years ago, failing to appreciate that I'd never be doing anything that would come close to needing a tungsten that meaty!

those apples in baskets reminds me.....
....if you want smallish pieces of bubble wrap for small items for posting etc, you can get it from the apple boxes at supermarkets, I usually get about a square meter a week for free and pass it on to my sister and brother in law ad they have an online mail order business... so far I've not been stopped, and put everything esle on the counter and leave the bubble wrap in the trolley. the shops will just throw it away so at least it is being recycled.

Had the joys of drilling out snapped fastenings on my mirror today after the previous pirate snapped them!
They're shear bolts. They're meant to be snapped when fitted...

Because they usually are 8mm headed sheer bolts as there was a large amount of thefts of mirrors back in the day when new.
Bt Van's were a big target.
Most get m6 hex or torx headed bolts put in after the originals get removed.
Somebody has obviously swapped the bolts on the other side then.
Those mirrors should be fitted with two 8mm hex head bolts, and a single shear bolt, so they just can't be unbolted and stolen.
