Today I acquired...........

Well I acquired these last week but only got home late last night so now today is their first day home.

5c imperial collet set
5c chuck
Pratt 4 jaw chuck
The one back plate and a drive plate which I’ll adapt to use for my 5c chuck but keep it able to use as a dog drive.
New 25t gear for my lathe
Colchester gap peice I’m missing.
Just finally a vice which will be good for the pillar drill or something.

A few tips for you when mounting L series chucks and faceplates.
Tighten as much as you can with the big C spanner. Then use a lead hammer to give a few blows to the face of the chuck - 1 blow between each set of jaws. So 3 for a 3 jaw.
Then give the C spanner a few clouts as well - not too hard - just to make sure it is properly tight.
But wait - not finished yet!
To get the chucks/faceplates to run true use a dti off a suitable reference point. For the collet chuck inside the collet taper. In a 3 jaw mount a piece of ground bar. Then you tap on the locking ring until the dti is spot on.
Yes it is a faf
Many people have bought new 3 jaw chucks because they thought the old one was worn - when a few taps with a hammer would have sorted it out.

Well aware about setting chucks up constantly, I did my apprenticeship as a tool maker, and a little bit after. Thankfully my chucks are only babies.

mine is within a thou just tightening by hand with the c spanner. If you’re hitting it with a hammer your taper is shot

Have you got to get a backplate for the 5C chuck?
Be interested to see if you buy one what quality they are, they look quite rough the partially finished ones on eBay.

Taper looks fine and the key is mint.
Perhaps it's old worn chucks?
Then again it says in the lathe manual and the Jacobs collet chuck manual that it needs to be done.

Yes it is.
I’ll be using the dog drive plate for that job. As long as the bolt hole is still accessible for the dog it shouldn’t Be an issue at all.

@KimB That's a lovely wee vice - when you get it cleaned up you may find it to be an 'Apprentice' piece with someone's name stamped on it somewhere.

Nice discs, I got some 8mm disco from a local big fab shop, they were the perfect size to make flat tops for some 19Kg gas bottle burners, trouble was they wanted quite good money for the, but well worth it.

It 's about 33" tip to tail 14" tall , and it's got to weigh well over 100kg. any ideas of worth ?
I could have easily dropped a clanger getting it.

I did have a scan on fleabay there's some mental prices on there ! do they sell em though this is the question. The fotis cost £41 and the dollies £7.50 and came as a lot but the postage was £18 so not bad really.

Fleabay was anywhere from 275 to 600 but wasn't a lot of info on size wise usually "Large "
was about it. Got it for £??? of the face book thing , It was posted as an Avril !
I nearly dropped a clanger as after I'd msg'd and said I'd take it on the way there I thought bugger I didn't ask any sizes ! if I get there and it's tiny I'm stuffed ,

Well it just goes to show one size does not fit all, I love Vue Scan and could never get on with Epson Scan or Silver Fast. Last week I scanned two rolls of 6x9 (2 1/4 x 3 1/4 in old money) negatives shot in the late 50's, using an Epson V700 scanning was easy, retouching all the scratches is taking ages.
