A guilty conscience .

Parked near the marina in Hartlepool, at the side of the splendid looking paddle steamer that is the Wingfield Castle, with some long rail and crossings for the station. Gave into temptation and bought a burger from MacDonalds, now feel slightly dirty . God forbid OH hears about this, my life will be a misery .

Is that because of parking by the steamer or the burger?

Yes, they're quite a few round the highlands of Scotland and at least one in Cornwall. Very useful if you're campervanning.

And there's one at Cobham services on the bottom of the M25.

It ranks as one of the oddest places to wash your clothes, in my opinion. And I speak as someone who carries all the washing paraphernalia and has been known to wash his smalls and hang them out to dry on a washing line strung from the hiab to the end of the trailer. But not in motorway services .

Purely because of the burger.

I can eat anything, by and large, but I very rarely eat processed food or "fast food", so I confessed all in a text to OH and got the inevitable reply. I had no idea that the words "You filthy..." followed by nine swear words constituted a coherent sentence .

Cool. I have been on both the Wingfield Castle and the Tattershall Castle when they were Hull to New Holland ferries before the Humber bridge was constructed. I think for some reason we went on a school trip to New Holland, it was probably to show a class of ten year olds that there was even less to see or do the other side of the river.
As the Tattershall Castle is now a floating bar on the North side of the Thames, I suppose I should go aboard just for old times sake.

Having looked it up the third ship the Lincoln Castle seems to have rotted away in Grimsby where it was finally broken for scrap. The Lincoln Castle was still coal fired right up to been withdrawn from service and I have vague memories of been disappointed that it was not on of the two ships in service the on the day of our school trip.

I'm moderately devastated to learn that the barge that was a floating bar moored by the castle in the centre of Newark has gone.

I used to enjoy parking in the cattle market of a summer's evening and having a wander to the barge. Nothing like partaking of a pint of shandy and a bar meal while watching the wildlife going about its business as a way of winding down after a long day in the saddle.

3 bits of metal plate about 2 -3mm thick the new stuff was heading to skip after covering a man hole for 24hrs.and an old bit that will do a job somewhere.

Just read on the line that it's been taken by river to a dry dock in Hull for to have the hull plated. Phew .

For what seemed like most of my childhood there used to be a former Tees paddlewheel tug moored on the river at Stockton, it went decades ago... but it refuses to die!
