I’ve been trying to twist-join-solder some 16swg wires together with my trusty old Draper 100 watt, but it just doesn’t seem to get enough heat into the joint to melt the solder properly. It’s the type with the curved wire thing poking out the front, so by design there is never much surface contacting at any time.
It’s only 10c in the workshop, but that shouldn’t hurt.
Can anybody recommend something a bit more powerful, with some sort of chisel type end on? And not costing a fortune, as I won’t be using it that often.
I saw a guy On YouTube, demonstrating soldering up crimp on terminals, belt and braces, and he hardly seemed to touch the crimp for more than a few second before a dab with the solder had it all nicely wetted.
Wiring up the hot rod today.
I’m a few feet short in most all of my coloured wires to the rear end, so rather than buy a dozen extra rolls I shall splice/solder/heat shrink some black in underneath the floor, where they will never be seen again.
This is my type of gun.
