They're really easy to make if you've got a lathe and are very very useful. I've got two, one of which lives permanently in my motorbike (along with some steel wire) and one lives in the workshop. This is the one from the workshop:

Construction is fairly obvious, but here's a couple more photos in case they're of help to anyone wanting to make them (threaded rod is M6; the brass handle could be replaced with a nut and a spanner if you're feeling lazy).

Probably the most expensive Cheater Lense!!

Turns out the Optrel VegaView (and othe Optrel lids) do not use the generic cheater lenses, they are Optrel specific with an Optrel price tag .

Need one as I can't see the detail without a cheater lense so dusted off the card and ordered one.

I just wear specs because if I used a lens instead I wouldn't be able to see when I lifted the lid

@Hood I have to use both, my reading glasses are for computer use but no good for close up so I wear my glasses and use the cheater lense when welding

I have varifocals so they are on all the time, well except when I am sleeping

Aquired 5 weeks work last night when I quote I'd given up on came in
Sods law as all the jobs I've chased down this week look like there coming in too.

When I first got specs the optician said I didn't really need varicfocals as it was just my close up sight that was bad. I however opted for them because I knew I wouldn't get on with taking specs on and off all the time and even if I did get used to it they would get damaged too easily with the stuff I do. Add to that, that I thought it could actually be dangerous, I could be up a mast or hanging over the side of a boat and needing the specs for close work but have no hands free to remove them when I moved to a different place and thus my vision would be blurred and I could easily misstep.

Sounds like you may be a candidate to get yourself or make a "Clamptite" hose clamp tool. It uses wire to make custom hose clamps to accommodate just about any size required; often used in airplane applications.

I know them as Haywire tools, Built 2 a while back.

it was around 12 quid from one of the usual suspects.
trouble is, i cant remember where from.


i lost all my emails over xmas, so i cant even backtrack: and its not showing in my order list.

its arrived *quickly* though: ordered in the perineum.[1]

[1] what my friend calls the bit of wasted time between xmas and new year.
