I had an XF 5L V8 supercharged - towering performance but didn't handle like my old SD1![]()
Faster than an m5 or c63 the jag that is, once it’s off the mark

Oh yes stunning! I used every drop of the power as often as possibleFaster than an m5 or c63 the jag that is, once it’s off the mark
I think Ford fubar'ed Saab from what i have heard.

Tbh though the XF diesel sport was easier to live with.
Yes, heater in the Traveller was perhaps inadequate for southern Jessies from places like Essex. We had a Morris 1000 Pickup on the farm in the early 1960s, and its tiny cab used to heat up very quickly. Could be a handful in the wet, unless you had a few bags of fertiliser in the back, but much nicer to drive than the previous farm runabout - Ford E83W 10cwt semi-forward control van. They would have to fix the structural woodwork designed to rot & the heater that only heats the gearstick knob.
Sorry they are yesterdays car.
But I do own a Morris Pickup, i might be tempted by one of these if it was an electric version!
Probably not Im far far too sensible In my old age. But a cossie was a fine car in its day as was the mk1 and 11 mexicos.
About 10 years ago I was offered an RG 500, bike, in as new condition, now I owned one new in the 80s for 6 weeks till the naughty boys decided they wanted it, and stole it. Marraige, money and off back to work and I didnt replace it. So we agreed a deal, and I rode it for about 25 minutes. Came back....deal was off, still loved it, noise, etc, but compared to a modern bike, nah rose tinted glasses are just that rose tinted.
Did look at a restored etype at a show once, and had a little sex wee!
My apprentices dad has one from new he decided to sell it as he knew he would bin it
Have you chaps heard of restomod
It’s not a restoration as it makes the original a better car, think modern brakes, modern a/c and modern power with an interior to match and decent paint

The thing about that is you wind up with a modern car with the body of an old one sitting on it. Not really the genuine thing is it ?
This is you end up with a better car than it started out as
Well then just drive the modern car ?
Yes but no, it keeps the classic lines you can’t buy nowadays, but upgrades the power, brakes and handling to be a better car than before
Wasn't there somewhere in mexico knocking out original VW campers and beetles?
they did stop production as u sayAye, but I'm sure production stopped a few years back?
I still miss these

My first ever car was an SD1 2600 auto. Did 150,000 miles never broke down. Saved my life when I crashed off the M4 at 80mph down a 30ft embankment into a concrete ditch. 80mph to 0 in 0.1 of a second! Not many cars would protect you from that!
I then had the Vitesse twin plenum with British Touring Car suspension. I have yet to drive a car that handled so well - lower than the old mini and wider than a Range Rover.
Good question, mind you, that twin cam cossie wasn't known for it's longevity!
I think everyone is forgetting that Cossies were only ever any good, right at the time, compared to everything else at the time, for the money. I mean, you had to compare them to a BMW M3 or something expensive.
In standard spec (escos, sapph, 4x4 etc) they have aged terribly. Horrible, floppy, unpredictable handling, boring interiors, ford "quality"... no thanks. See above video...
At least the likes of 106 GTis, minis etc were chuckable and still fun today, although the interiors and creature comforts are obviously old fashioned.
The car that captivated me was my Nissan 200sx, S14, I went from a 2005 530d to this 1995 blandmobile... and it was SOOO much funBut ultimately, after I finished modifying EVERYTHING about it, it still didn't have the comfort or effortless power of a modern car... and almost blander inside than an escort, if that's possible!
Since then, I've never looked back.
Try driving a new Golf GTi and an Escos back to back and tell me I'm wrong. Could you honestly say you'd spend the same money on them (assuming as-new prices etc) and live with the old car for 3 years?

I always quite fancied a Skoda 130 LR had some success in in Group B Rally's.It’s not really fair to compare a car from back in the day to one from this era.
Back then Skodas were utter rubbish. Now they are a rebadged VW and very nice
I had one as a hire car few weeks back
