I think a previous owner of our house was a very enthusiastic amateur mechanic, having 4 inspection pits in the garages. I would like to get use out of 1 or 2, but at the moment they are pretty much useless, and a bit dangerous.
In the winter they get really damp, so I need to find a way to tank them, or otherwise make them waterproof.
They were originally built by who I presume was a very small bloke. I'm just under 6 ft, and can't even stand up in any of them with a car over the top. Ideally I'd like to deepen them by 8 - 10 inches.
They are also a bit of a hazard because 3 or them have no covers. One has got the traditional timbers over it, the ones that look like mini railway sleepers. Now both my girls are wandering around looking for me, I need to get them covered.
Any thoughts on any of the above would be much appreciated.
They are all block built, with solid concrete bottoms.
