Luckily I’d had my weetabix that day and was able to lift it straight on. I used the spirit levels and tape measure to unsure it was all lined up before clamping the head tight.

That was lucky .

It's this kit but we've swapped the hammer drill for a more useful cordless planer.

We had applied for funding for more cordless tools & it has eventually came through & this was bought from FFX for £675.
This will mean less extension leads to act as trip hazards, a lot of our members are not good on their feet!

Now we have some 5ah batteries we are going to buy a cordless grinder.

That's more pornography related than the chainsaw oil up in the comments before

In the Parkside leaflet there is an address for customer care ..I think it is a wwww. one …. I went there & eventually found a new battery for my little vibrating saw . IIRC it was going to be £3 more than a new one from the store when the P&P had been added

I will surely make a parkside cordless kit in the future and I will be not afraid to take them out in the job site
Because yes they are cheap but , batteries are easily available for cheap , power wise they are enough good and I know Hilti guys that use also parkside
Generally speaking I can't justify the money effort to buy a cordless grinder ,driver drill, impact and maybe circ saw from Metabo or Milwaukee even in work environment because I don't use them often
I have a 36V Hitachi SDS drill that I use not quite often
Generally the customers don't know the value of the tools but sometimes there are people that know what you use so they can see see you as an improvised so I generally don't buy cheap tools but my bag is something like 500 euros worth of specialised branded tools.
So I don't think someone will probably think that I'm an improvised just looking my tools

Getting the pillar tube back in the hole once you've cut it is best done with the head laid on it's side rather than try and hold it up above a vertical tube . The last one I played with .. I left the tube in place , laid the drill on it's side undid the foot , cut it chamfered the cut and put the foot back on ..had to slacken the top rack clamp to allow the rack to move up . I then had to get help to get it back on it foot and bolt it securely to the bench .

I've dismantled and moved Progress 2G four or five times, singled handedly (not sure I could now).

Remove the table.
Lower the head to its lowest position.
Stand on the bench and pull the column towards you. It helps at this point if you've A) unbolted said drill from the bench and B) you've cleared the bench
Lower the lot and then you can undo the column mounting boss on the base.
Having done that you can then loosen the clamp on the column and draw it from the head casting.

Sounds easy, but it's a bit of a frig to do. For a start the base isn't square, so the whole lot is trying to roll to one side. It makes for an interesting half hour.

On top of that, the Progress has a solid steel column; 3 foot of 3 inch steel weighs a far bit, about 72lbs or 33kg.

Reassembly is, of course, the reverse procedure, except you don't have gravity on your side

A Glass, nowt special. But it is heavy, chunky and fits my hand nicely, great for cold drinks in the play pen.

12 - Really

In truth, I had 3 packets all to myself, but in a rare (for a boner fido Yorkshireman ) gesture of magnanimity, I gave a packet this morning to the father and son team who were installing the smart metering pole I delivered near Portsoy.

Seriously, I felt very sorry for the lad, apparently he was cutting a length of 6” ducting with a wood saw yesterday. The saw grabbed on the drawcord as he was on the cutting stroke, the blade bent in an arc then twanged free, and shot forward. He was rushing the job, and that’s a place we’ve all been to , and as the blade came loose, it jumped across to his hand and almost took his thumb off . Made a heck of a mess according to his Dad, blood everywhere and tendons cut through. Lots of bandages later, he has an appointment at home, Derby, as soon as he gets home, after a 10 hour drive on a Friday .

Note: And if anyone tells you you can get an 18 metre artic through the village of Fordyce, they’re not wrong. But it’s bum squeakingly tight .

And, the best part of today, I’ve acquired a paid weekend to Shetland .

Parked near Arbroath tonight awaiting tomorrow when a Scottish haulier is bringing me a sectional phone mast on our short body. Great piece of kit, you drop the trailer then with the crane you lift the body and sit it on 4 twistlock posts, (same as shipping containers sit on), that are part of the subframe for the crane, and it turns the artic unit into a short wheelbase rigid lorry. Superb for accessing very tight sites, makes the rig ultra versatile.

And even better, the installation is on Monday, but Sunday’s overnight ferry from Aberdeen is full, so I’m on tomorrow night’s ferry, which gives me most of Sunday to indulge in birdwatching and whisky drinking. And Monday night’s ferry back to Aberdeen is full, so I get most of Tuesday to play out as well .

Thus, I admit to being a happy chappy today .

17ft with a 40 on it, engine was goosed and I had the money to either buy a new outboard or the sofa, the sofa won. Hull wasn’t worth much on its own

I used to drive past that place often, when I lived down on the East Coast. Can't say it's one I've ever tried since I prefer the smokey, peaty Islay ones.

I have fond memories of Shetland. When I was involved in the rating of golf courses on behalf of the Scottish Golf Union a small team travelled up to perform the rating exercise [basically assessing the degree of difficulty from the perspective of a scratch and h'cap golfer - I won't bore you all with the details here]. First time we were billeted at the Busta House Hotel www.http://www.bustahouse.com/ but on our return trip [we had to return if the Club made any course changes] we were in a different place, the name of which I forget.

The usual format was we would be out on the course all day filling in all the measurement forms etc, then after our evening meal we'd sit and do the paperwork in preparation for the next days assessments and play at least a few hols to get a feel for if we'd got it right. It was usual to have a postprandial drink, and seeing as there were three or us, well......

The first drink arrived & mate #1 went to the bar to order. I'd asked for a Lagavulin, this was consumed and mate #2 went off to get his round in. When the drinks were bought [same again all round] I though mine looked like a double and I asked him if that was what he'd ordered [I'd had my suspicions looking at the first one]. "Just what Sandy had ordered".

When my turn came, I made a point of watching the barmaid and realised she'd being using a sherry schooner as a measure - I didn't say anything, well I didn't want to embarrass the poor young lass.

There was also a sign at the edge of the car park which read "Please do not park in the bar"

Happy days!!
