Il give it a decent test in pine and oak tomorrow. Feels solid enough.
The rack and pinion is gash but every bottle trimmer Ive ever owned has failed at that anyway so I'm not too worried

If he spindle has a tapered bore for the chuck (or big drill bit) to fit into, it's a morse taper. If not it'll most likely have a male "Jacobs" taper on the spindle that presses into the back of a chuck. If you extend the quill as far as it goes, a morse taper spindle should have an elongated slot in the side of it a few inches from the end to allow a drift to fit through and knock the chuck/big drill out.

Morse taper is the name of the conical taper system
MT or MK is the short name there are different sizes
But essentially you remove the chuck and put a drill bit without needing a chuck

Today I acquired.
Well not today but yesterday I popped down to see johnnybravo to pick up the d31 duplex tool grinder. Great bit of kit. The grinder is designed for a 8.5 inch centre height lathe . To big for the empire but perfect size for one of my other lathes.

Oh yeah, they had them here a few weeks ago, along with the bike thieves special, the cordless angle grinder, but i had no spare cash on me that day.

There's also a Footprint hacksaw and a couple of other generic types, a Bosch corded drill, a Dimplex in working order and loads of other small bits I've not had a chance to sift through yet. Not bad for £0 (Well,maybe £4 in petrol).

2 pairs of lifting chains that had been condemned and skipped, and an aerosol of dash polish from the nice Autosmart man:
Might get all artistic with the chain and see if I can weld some of it into the Scania “V8” logo to adorn the gear lockers on the wagon, and use some to make rustic hangers for the utility room at home.

I got some of these quick release couplings to go with my portable mig to save dragging the bottle about with the welder attached , can be used inline or as a bulkhead fitting

Bob what are they called again and where from. I have the same on my mig and need a few more for something else and cant remember for the life of me their name or where I got them from
PCL couplings??
Are they the same quick release fittings that are used for a compressed air supply?

Very little vibration.
Plenty of power
Visibility is not great and a bit top heavy so not ideal to freehand hinge rebates.
Il use them both but keep my old Hitachi for hinge and latch work.
Wonder what the new replacement is like.
Owned that for many years and it's been pushed far past it's intended design.
