Tight nuts and how to remove?

Take it to your local garage and ask them to remove it...pointless buying a tool just for one job.

Impact wrenches have a massive advantage over long levers.... they're impact and you don't need a great deal of counter-torque.

Big twin or Sportster? Presumably a breaker bar wouldn’t work anyway without some means of locking the pulley or stuffing some rope down a spark plug hole etc.? If there is a means of locking the pulley I’d be wary of damaging whatever you’re locking against if using a big bar - impact gun would be the kindest on other components.

FWIW I've had more success with leverage than with impact drivers, air or electric.

Is there anything out there that would let you do both at the same time? One person hanging off a long pole and another using the impact driver, would this achieve anything?

a friend of mine worked in a Harley place, they had one they just couldn't get off, he ended up getting one of the mechanics from the local truck place to come over with a 1" impact gun, and that took it off... he struggled before.. I'd agree with the above, if you haven't got the means to tackle it, take it to someone who has.

Just as important is stopping whatever the nut is attatched to from turning, doesn't matter how long the bar is on a crankshaft bolt if it only moves the engine it won't undo it.

The final drive 32mm sprocket nut is about 150nm on my bike.

Plan A - bike on ground, trusty assistant holding both brakes on, big bar slowly moved bike forward

Plan B - bike on centre stand, piece of 4x2 timber laid across swingarm through back wheel, apply big bar and timber started to crack

Plan C - stop back wheel turning with foot against tyre, apply Clarke battery impact gun and 5 seconds later

I don't think anything exists as there can't be much demand for it but there's no reason it shouldn't work. You could weld a five foot bar on the side of an impact extension bit, a mate hanging on the bar could apply about a thousand Newton-meters and an impact wrench plugged into it could supply another thousand in impact form. The poor sod swinging on it might get a good bonk when the bolt breaks free and the wrench spins. Personally I'd just use the impact wrench but that could just be coz I've got no mates to swing on it.

Might be worth considering buying a new nut and splitting the old one off, Jaguar front hub nuts are often removed using this technique

Done this more times than I can count! It'll be a last resort though. Science first, bloody minded muscle second...

@8ob's torque multiplier great tools we have an old Proto one.
Know someone with this unit removed truck nuts that hanging on a scaff pole would not move,
Note it is 3/4 drive

Realy you need low ESR caps they use them in UPS power suppl
The ESR is internal resistance of cap the lower the esr the cooler it will run, you can use a number of caps in parallel to get the required result.
Have you noticed a difference with the one out of the circuit, there were 2 gone on the Moser & it was just not as smooth when welding (MMA welding)
Actually the proper welder said it was S**t

I have the new milwaukee onekey 1/2'' impact cordless gun, its a beast ! 2000Nm of breaking power and its more intelligent than me- lets me configure-it over the smartphone app ! On a serious note, what a snap on mg725 cannot do on a decent air supply and 15Bar air compressor, the milly does it with ease ! I also have the 3/4'' older version and really is night and day between the 2 ! I recommend it...

1625Nm breakaway torque, the only bolts it doesn't loosen are the ones it snaps.

Is that a typo or really 1625Nm?

That's what the website says, though they also quote 950Nm as the maximum torque, I don't really know what's meant by or how you'd measure "Breakaway torque". I suspect its marketing spank.

Decent 6-point socket on a snap on 18V impact gun will have most things off. Heat if required.

Failing that a torque multiplier.

We’ve got them at work. Realistically, the quoted figures are exaggerated. I really don’t rate them or the batteries.

The most powerful, tested, 18V impact gun is the Milwaukee one.

Milwaukee batteries are junk though and the bodies are made of cheese.

Can’t beat snap on, tried and tested, still the same years after they were released.
