Anyone know what thread form these oil nipples are?

A 5.20mm drill fits perfectly in the hole, nearest tapping drill imperial size would be 13/64”. They’re not a particularly fine thread.

I’m siding with 1/4” Whitworth.
But could be 0BA?

The thread is too short to get any sort of reliable reading.

I'd have thought you'd get a pretty good idea. One is 20 and the other 25.4

As you've no doubt already seen, the tapping drill for 0BA is 5.1mm

If you had a screw for each thread I'm sure it'd be easy to determine.

I tell you what’s really weird. M6x1.0mm is looking to be the most likely candidate and a standard tractor M6x1mm grease nipple fits! .

0BA is basically 6x1 with with a 47 deg angle

I don’t know what oil this is or how old but it absolutely deals and I’d pretty viscous!

Interestingly earlier on, I was looking at the L5A I did some work on, and it is fitted with a 127T gear which I’m gonna have off it at some point (subject to me finding the right imperial gears).

This is the plate inside the changewheel cover. How do I reverse this to cut imperial threads on my metric 140?

By the way they are missing the 40t and 63t gear so god knows what they think they’ve been cutting.

This means I still need to get a 40t and a 63t to cut every imperial pitch

The Boxford uses a 100/127 to cut metric on an Imperial machine and a 127/135 to cut Imperial on a metric machine, if that's of any help.

No you don't, you can cut a keyway using the lathe like a shaper. It's just a slow process but works excellent.

Your oil point will almost certainly be whitworth by the way.

These are good lathes but I wouldn’t say they’re the best ever made. M400-M450 much better lathe in terms of features and precision.

They are well equipped for their size and current price point though.

When I find a nice M450 I’ll probably trade up.

My cousin put a hammer to his last 140 and scrapped it, the ways were done when he finished with it. The Harrison 450 is a nice machine but it depends what work you have for it. I have never yet had a job in that I needed the 10 foot between centres*. The 400 is a good all rounder.

(* might be 12' but it is a fair distance in any event).

When i was due to move into a workshop 3 years ago i was offered a colchester mascott long bed sadly lease fell apart due to unforeseen issue with the farm. Can never have a long enough bed.

I did qualify my "best lathe Harrison made" comment with 'in my opinion'. Of course I'd like an M400 or a VS350, but I don't have the need or space. For a small ish jobbing lathe I think a 140 covers it all.

Ah yes for the home machinist the 140 is a very good lathe.

It’s so well thought out compared to some other machines.
