Today I was again a few hundred miles from home. 3 1/2 drive to a site to explain to a customer that it is correct for the Emergency lights to come on when there is a power cut. Plus that some are illuminated all the time and why.
I also did not:

Old fashioned Road Work like, complete with a new-ish paraffin wick. I was not going to pay the asking price with a "As original" wick holder, for one simple reason. It did not work.

I have bean after one of theses for a while. But after Dr. Who and the episode "The Beast Below" the price went through the roof and decent ones became hard to find. Then there was trend to "Up-cycle" them and putting in electric lights.

They make brilliant heaters for outside brick houses ( if the doors are in reasonable condition) In the really bad winter of 1962/3 the rats used to sit on the wood work near the lamp to get warm .

Bit of history. In Bradford On Avon there was a small tool and fixings suppliers. But sadly they have closed down. Recently at a local auction house their "New Old Stock" have been turning up. I think the ex owners are selling remains of the stock off. I can only guess, but I have seen their old logo on some old auction lots.

You might need to change the clamping screws on all holders for some decent precision high tensile ones … mine were like liquorice & opened up the first time I put the Allen key in them ( yes it was the correct size )

@DAPPH I did set them up last night, seen other posts about chinesium threaded bits but cranked them down and so far so good.

I am going to remake the clamping stud for the QC toolpost tho as not too happy with what was supplied

My Antex micro like that is 32 yr old & still gets a work out every now & then . They are rather expensive these days , most folk seem go for the £ 15 soldering station where you can adjust the tip temperature to solder melting pint + a degree or two over as modern pcb's tracks tend to lift up if much heat is applied to them.

They wreck sandwich / multiple layer circuit boards .....as I found out only a couple of weeks ago .

I thought of buying extra long high tensile studs for the tool holders so I could make the most use of the QCTP's block height .. changed my mind when I found them on eBay at nearly £ 9 each . Instead I purchased an RGD 100 mm ( ?) circular vice put it on some square key steel an simply clamp that in a tool holder when I want to play at trying to mill Delrin , alu & brass jobs.


Found that the tool post anchoring stud has been bodged by a P/O they used a badly fitting high tensile steel bolt which started to pull through the anchoring slot , it lifted the mating face for the QCTP on the cross slide a fraction , so it allowed a smidgeon of rotation of the QCTP when it was under pressure .. just when you don't want it ,such as when using a long boring bar .

I blued it up and ground a four inch length of an industrial hack saw blade to make a scraper , getting a decent right angle cutting edge on it using an 8 inch diamond whetstone , then set to work on the hump cross filing & scraping it flat again .

^^ Those pins look so incongruous - what would have been there originally? [old ones of the same, I suppose ]

I feel that it should possibly be a brass or cast iron washer either side off the wheel and a taper start parallel body mills pin rather than a split pin through the axle plus plenty of thick black grease .

Just checked using google seems very likely put ( lister engines on cast iron wheeled trolley" into Google & look in images .

Sunday I got this B&D work mate.

It is now free to open and close.

It is an early one, ally frame and 1" ply top.

It dates from about 1973.

Ron Hickman was the brains behind it.

Lovely bit of kit but the alloy parts tended to break .
I have my dads work mate made in pressed steel from about 1974/5 . I turned up an aluminium vice handle knob about a couple of years ago after routing off half the old one . I've also all four new plastic leg lock "D" springs & made a slightly longer pair of new tops in 25 mm HDF .

A good Work mate table is worth it's weight in gold , I made a welded up 8 inch wide T plate in 6 mm steel to mount a 4 inch vice on , it fitt in the vice part so I could have the best of both worlds when I was SE. Now a days it fits in a slot I cut in the edge of my welding bench & can still be removed easily when I need the full bench top.

To keep getting notifications of what's due in the stores but you can buy it on line from them before hand then it's despatched on the release day .

Saw something I felt I could use to great benefit for me
Yesterday I received a £ 43 , self contained 240 volt paint sprayer , now I can spray the 24 new fence panels with two coats of long lasting " TOTAL wood preservative " made by Ronseal instead of spending weeks painting them by hand .

The guy I know in the local builders merchants said he sprayed all his fence panels with one coat of it both sides , top & bottom 18 yrs ago & they are still good .

I replaced my stud & clamping nut with a precision high tensile steel British made one for about a £15 in total obtained from a local engineering supply business , using studlock on the end that fits in the " T " nut .
