20ft around my part of the world go from £750 for a tatty watertight one to £1500 for a newish airtight one. check prices on ebay

Cheers guys, looking for a 40 foot high top I believe they are called, just looking at prices at the moment, for use as a metal workshop as part of my Men in Sheds project.

The cost of the container can be equalled by the cost of getting it transported and lifted in to place, so investigate those costs as well.

There seem to be a fir few one trip containers about will get you a name & phone Monday.
Were in the SWest as well a co near me has bought3 & they are a Thrifty lot

My two 40 foot High Tops were just shy of £4k each delivered and placed, but they were 'single trips' ie made abroad and brought only one load in before coming to me so were as new. Price included spraying in camo green so that they blend in.

Just make sure you get one that hasent transported hides in brine maggot/bacteria central and ensure you get one that wasnt used for transporting dangerous goods, czn be some very nasty stuff left inside.

Would suggest getting a 45 footer as not much more cost wise and give you that little bit extra space. That is if you have the space for it.

Sometime 40's can be a similar price to 20's as its the transport that costs that kills it,lots of options to move 20's but 40 you are limited to specialised loading/ unloading equipment.
20's are around £ 500 to 1200 depending on condition around this way, Have seen standard 40's around £900 to £1500.(no idea how much extra for a hi top)
I would expect to get a 20 moved locally for around £300 but around £600+ for a 40.
Do you have good aces? the self loading 40's i have seen have a hiab each end of the trailer so will only off load parallel to the trailer.
The other option is a standard 40 container lorry and a second smaller hiab truck to off load and position.

It pays to shop around, we got some silly prices when we were looking for a 20’ one tripper earlier in the year. I think we found one local for about £1,500 and £300 delivered and positioned. We probably could have saved a bit of we could have waited but bargains always turn up when you don’t need them or are in a position to take advantage of them.

I have recently bought four forty foot high cubes for £1000 each inc delivery, apparently the high cubes are not as valuable

The 20s sell much easier hence the price usually being a fair bit steeper.
I’d have liked to have built my workshops from high cubes but they were even dearer still than the 20 footers we ended up settling on.

I have an airtight 20ft in my work yard and its a nightmare...cant keep any solvent stuff in it including petrol plant and equipment as when you open it the fumes almost knock you over...keep meaning to put a small couple of vents in it to have a bit of moving air going through

I rember a Grand Designs episode where an Irishman made himself a beautiful modern home from a cantilevered stack of 40ft boxes. If you’ve got the imagination it’s amazing what can be done with them.

Don't get to blase about their security - local company had some well protected locks on the doors . . . they came in one morning to find new permanent doors cut in the sides and rather a lot of expensive machinery gone in one night.

I think if they are going to break in they will irrespective of building construction, a wooden shed or a profile clad industrial building would offer less protection than a shipping container. The great unwashed will find a way into anything if they put their minds to it. A friend of mine that lived in Sheffield had his brick building/workshop broken into when the scrotes pushed back the roof tiles and gained entry, he had to empty the loft and pack it with razor wire.

They used a cordless grinder where I have my container stored and cut three slits and peeled it back to gain access. I’d have loved to have seen there faces when they realised it was an empty container
