Snapping Torx Bits

Anyone else have this issue from time to time?

I haven't come across anything that doesn't snap it seems, Even Snap On ones I've seen twist like chinesium!

No. But what tool are you breaking them with. I only use mine in hand drivers or on low torque settings in the drill drill driver. That’s what they are designed for. If it’s tight use a proper torx key or socket.

Just a 3/8 drive ratchet

Buy a proper set of torx sockets they come in different lengths for access issues and can come impact rated

Facom ones I've been using are pretty good, take a fair amount of torque before they start to twist. Shouldn't be that tight they are twisting any how.

i snap or strip them often just in a battery screwdriver they just dont last long

I would understand if I was using them with an impact gun, But I'm not!

Just a 3/8 drive ratchet

It’s too much for them mate. They ain’t designed for an 8 inch lever.
1/4 inch ratchet is the limit for them. after that you want to be using sockets ideally

It was a T40 I snapped on a M10 thread, So it wasn't anything as small as a T20

A 3/8 shouldn't be snapping a t40. Could you possibly be putting some force other than the normal twist of the ratchet causing it to snap.

I’ve got the Halfords Pro Torx Sockets. They’ve taken all the abuse a hobbies can throw at them and still going strong

Seized 10mm bolts will kill any torx,spline or allen bits. If it doesn't kill the bit the bolt head will chew up, if there is space a shock with an impact driver may move them.

10mm CS allen bolts that hold the blades on chipper rollers are always seized soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo use a 17mm spanner instead

i would agree if you were using a quarter socket with an adapter on a 3/8 but ive had snap-on 3/8 that kept breaking and traded them in for a mac set which was no better.
they are pretty naff, i do however think part of the problem is the bolts can be done up tighter with a torx bolt than a standard phillips or something making them hard to get out when stuck or seized up.
one thing i do out of habbit is give the bolt some shock therapy with a hammer before trying to undo a tight bolt especially if its a torx

Other than cleaning the compressed crud out of the fittings I don't recall ever finding one seized. Usually a nice Saturday morning job for me at home. Old Entec chipper before timberwolf bought em up.

Mounted on a big flywheel mind not like above.
Interested to see how/where they fit in the machine.assume there mounted in the hex blocks shown above?

They are the feed rollers Robin, unlike the chipper blades which are changed twice a week they stay in for years until they are knackered and wont pull in the brash. Hence why they are always seized.

Guys maybe it’s my confusion here but when the op stated torx bits I assume he means one of these.
If that’s the case then I stand firmly by my post. A 3/8 ratchet will have no problem destroying them if the fastener is tight. I wouldn’t be attempting to take out m10’s with them either.
These are driver bits low torque tools.

thats a security torx not normal torx
