a day of contradictions.
An early finish but a long day. (Just walked in)
A van full of chaos from which order was found.

Rocked up on site this morning.
Heard a tool box go over on route.

Opened the doors to be greeted with chaos.
The racking had finally given up and most of my systainers were blocking the whole of the van

Took me half hour to extract and get the thankfully small amount of tools I needed.

The racking was in the van when I bought it but never got around to doing anything about it.

So my afternoon of urgent paperwork has been shunned to tomorrow and I set about dealing with the carnage.

Was bad enough previously. When I switched vans I just dumped everything in wholesale so everything has been sorted as I go.

Cba putting new racking in (other than a small one for my screwboxes.)
The vans too small for my needs really but needed to be working again quickly at the time.

Will do for the time being.
Used some ladder tie downs to hold up the trestles. (Il chop thr excess off tomorrow before I crack my head.)

Used up a few more eurocrates as a quick fix.

Also it is a collet nut, think it is a TG or possibly a DA collet chuck, I didn't check it as I was too busy removing the old spindle and putting that one in.
Why they left the chuck in I am not sure, could have been their control crapped out and they then couldn't release it.

Our Munchkin will be going to UNI next year and live in halls of residence.
I've been aware of landlords being excessive in their claims indeed some occasioning damage &making excessive charges for it after the tenants have moved out .

On reading that link I'll make sure that every nook, crannie & surface is photographed and I'll provide three copies of it asap ..one to the land lord by signed for mail , number two to munchkin & Number three mine .
I'll also get Munchkin to do the same the minute she vacates the place.

A Garden Vac.

It is the engine I was after. Mike had a few engines in his pile of parts, but in return for a favour I was allowed to have this.

I have fired the engine up, it runs.
But the sweeping and vacuum part do not.

I'm sure that's a Billy Goat, they're expensive new and fetch strong £££s as used machines on the 'Bay. Give it a tart up and get it sucking & blowing and you'll be surprised how much it fetches.

Good time of year to be flogging, with leaves about to be knee deep....

A newish Clarks 6" bench grinder.



All there, even a polishing mop spindle.

First impression looks good.

But, both stones are very loose.
Something to look at over the weekend.

Today fell to my lap

so after a while with the chop saw and an hour i made an extension for a mates wheel chair access for free will fit it in a day or 2

All free from a skip yes I asked

Another pair of Altberg boots from eBay, black ones this time. Supremely comfortable, very light and a Vibram sole for £70 - soldiers and coppers often get issued with them and sell them on.

honestly say, probably the best pair of boots I've had for years, if ever!

bought them to get in training - going to do some long distance footpaths (woldsway, dales way, coast to coast), over next 12 months, culminating in Pennine way this time next year. then the south west coast path the following year.

For dry weather I'd also recommend the Meindle Desert Fox desert boot; I'd argue that once worn in they're even more comfortable than the Altberg...

Engine off, parts salvaged for usable parts.
Engine onto the lawn mower, set up and runs.
Friend paid in stumpy bottles of French beer.

Those beers swopped with a neighbour for some steak and kidney, beef and onion pies and some blocks of cheeses.

Some space cleared.

Update.

Bottom Rip saw, is dead (For now). The teeth are to far gone to be saved. "Plans are afoot Watson" But not for a day or 3.

The 2 middle panel saws, can be saved. @Parm I had a go at sharpening them. The kit does a good job. I will get more practise on them.

Blade removed, the hammer fixings were lost in that process. I had spares. Teeth set and a friend sharpened the teeth.
Sat for 4 days in citric acid, pressured washed off and attacked with a scoring pad. Then lacquered.
The handle was striped and cleaned using "Meths" and wire wool (and rum). Re-stained with a Light oak wood dye and given a good finish with medium oak wax.



Oh yes. The screwdriver. Right hand side of picture.




Handle removed and striped of some terrible finish. The ding and dents filled with body filler tainted with dark oak wood dye.

Metal work cleaned, tip dressed to a usable end. Reassembled to this.
