Cheers JP....I was really surprised that it was this good straight out of the gun...amazing really. It almost doesn't need flatting and polishing! Shame about the dust particles...we'll flat it down and see how it is....may need another pass but definitely progressing in the right direction.
It was my fault...I think when I started out I was extra careful to clean and sheet up....then as we got good results I just got a little complacent I think so just need to keep on top of things I guess!

Have just found this thread. Wow - impressive stuff! I had to tackle some of the issues on my wife’s Figaro. Lots of your photos look familiar!
I struggled to get to grips with welding from below and built a frame to roll the car.

Unfortunately, never quite finished it and it’s being scrapped this week. Best of luck with the final stages on yours!

Cheers Eltoad...thats a nice looking frame you have there. I also thought of doing something similar as welding under a car is no fun....especially when it's all <1mm thick steel. Yours actually looks pretty good...but then again they all do until you get under them!!
Those chrome side mirrors and head light covers are expensive....I think things like cup holders can sell for £200 a pop!
Your floor repair looks OK in the pics from what I can see....the floors were definitely the hardest bit to fix.

Thanks PD2! I certainly enjoyed building the frame more than a lot of jobs on the Figaro although it presented its own challenges at times.
That’s useful to know. No cup holders unfortunately but I’ve removed the mirrors and a load of other parts. It’s a shame as I really wanted to save the car but it wasn’t to be.
Yeah, the floor repair wasn’t too bad when on the frame. Not so easy to remove the paint and sound deadening stuff (or whatever it is) from the floor though. I had a few fires!

Yea that stuff on the inside was a right pain to remove too...after I'd removed it all with a scraper I watched an episode of car sos where he used dry ice to get it off!
Definitely if you have the time strip all of the panels and interior/exterior trims....they seem to go for big money. I sent you a PM (inbox)....if you are going to be selling bits let me know as I would probably need a car load for Project #3!

Eltoad...it was great meeting you today and many thanks for the car full of spare parts that I came away with. I now have most of the missing pieces that I needed for both Figaro's...including the all important bonnet pull handle that I broke and most of the interior plastics for Project#3 too...happy man indeed

Very much appreciated...it was a long day of driving but well worth the trip and of course it was great meeting you. When the Figgy is finally done we'll have to meet up again I think.

Still didn't get the roof done yet...decided to get the floor sound stuff down. Have to say this stuff is very nice to use...sticks down very well and there is enough flexibility so it conforms to the pressings in the floor. I avoided the temptation to cut out templates....instead just got it down...carpet is going over the top and to be honest it came out well enough anyway as the sheets fit the floor quite well. Not looking forward to doing the boot though!

Finally got the paint on the roof...still masked up but looking very nice indeed. We decided to go all out on sheeting up and it's solved our previous dust problem...sheeting costs about £5 so crazy not to just do it fresh each time we top coat I think.
Really amazed at how glossy this paint dries straight from the gun....MrC is also impressed with the paint. Not a bad job considering we are basically painting in a garden shed!

I spotted a Figaro parked in the next village yesterday - will have to keep an eye out to establish if it's anyone local.

Yea slim I think its one of those cars that once you notice them they pop up all over the place. I do think they look very nice with all the chrome bits....shame they rot like ripe fruit on a summers day! I wonder how many will survive another 25 years!

I think 2 Figaro's is my limit but you never know...I think if I saw a really interesting one I might be tempted.
I've been after a Volvo p1800 for about a decade....and sods law one pops up when I have no time or space available! After the Figaro's are done I still need to get my mr2 roadster back on the road too!!
I told MrC today that if the roof wasn't done I would get a paint brush out and just brush the white on....that roof has been such a royal pain...am glad I took it back to bare metal though.

One step forwards...two steps back. Put the high build on...3rd coat and could see something lifting!!!
Decided any panel which has been touched by the hands of this "restorer" will need to be stripped.
I don't know what on earth is going on....it's like they filled it and then dipped it in high build straight out the tin!!

Yea it's pretty bad...I do have 2 spare doors now and I was tempted to just switch to a better door. But then I decided this project is about learning new skills and hard lessons too....if I took the easy route I wouldn't be learning much and then one day I might be restoring a car where another door isn't so obtainable!!
Does feel sometimes like it really doesn't want to be restored...on the up side I'm slowly putting the shell back together which is kind of keeping me going (I'll take a few pics when I get the chance).
Was funny as I spent the last few days prepping and laying on the high build....then the final coat went on today and I saw a little lifting...had a poke and it was just mush!
What I've learned is mare metal is the way to go unless it's a factory finish or it's a finish which I've previously laid on and I know whats under it!!!
