Where are you going to mount the mirror so folks can admire the red painted underside of the table?
They will be able to see the reflection in the drill base
I painted it 'cos it was rusty and I didn't want lumps of rust dropping onto nice new wood. However it is Alfa red and it didn't stop them from rusting

I got the table turned over gave it a going over with a variety of small cup brushes to get into the t-slots and took it down through 60, 80 and 120 grit on the top. Seemed a bit pointless going much finer than that. I even found three holes that went all the way through the top, You can see the screwdriver in one of them. It only took 5 minutes to get the table back onto the base with the engine hoist as I had the brackets and straps at the ready from taking it off.
I attacked all the holes with a Dremell to get the holes free of crud and rust, gave it a good degreasing ready for the JB Weld.
I was just going to try a few holes but put my thumb nail through the side of the tube when squeezing it out so decided to cut the end of the tube with the tin snips and mix the lot. Given it was cold I just has time to get about a third of the table done. I found you can't skim too close to a hole as it drags it out, ideally I would inject it into the deeper holes to avoid bubbles. After popping a few bubbles and working it well in it just started to thicken as I finished. Some of the T-track edges needed reforming, I will have to build it up in layers for the bigger chip.
I'll attack that tomorrow evening with the DA before applying any more. I have another pair of tubes somewhere but I will need more.

Oh that poor table!
Whoever drilled all those holes needs tied to the drill table & attacked with a very blunt 1/2" drill with the drill in back gear, using lemon juice as a lubricant!
To an extent I'll agree, but its an industrial pillar drill in some places/people really abuse the equipment, in a precision machine shop you'd be, hang drawn n quartered and rightly so, but the machine has abuse/character depending on your view.
Let face it, if a bit of kit is at the right price you can over look/fix things, although Brewdexta has certainly come out on top before smelling of roses....

Happens a lot of the time in schools, kids think it's clever to overload the machine or damage it, usually the berk kids anyway... used to have a guy who would put squares of sheet steel on the table and drill almost through, no clamping then release the handle and watch them Frisbee across the room. One day the teacher just flipped, said you can get out and stay out, you're banned from this room forever. He had to report to the head and explain, ended up with half a year of 'food tech'!

We have an old Asquith radial arm drill that was used for drilling railway castings (Couplers, Axle motion sets etc), It's been removed from the fettling shop and setup in a bay where fabbing/welding takes place, I don't think it's even been fired up in all the years it's been in there

I like that idea. Once the tops level and I've cleaned up the main pillar I'll get the home brew out. I shall name this drill Matilda after the one of the kids favourite Roald Dahl books.

I've either been on holiday, working, ill or rescuing numpty drivers so haven't done much recently. I sanded down one coat of JB Weld today and put on another
Here's how it stood before the next coat. The piece of Liepaper (used to be call newspaper) covers a piece of wood so that the next fill doesn't fall into the T-slot.
Here's a close up of the big chip taken out of the right hand side, before and after. I used a candle cut into a T cross section and pushed down the slot to stop JB Weld from filling the slot on that one but I have run out of candles and the others aren't so bad.
I think I'm on the home run now, maybe one more filling after the current one and then I can experiment with getting the right combination of grit and grime to make the JB Weld blend in a bit more. So far, once well cured, I'm quite impressed with JB Weld.

Are you going to braze repair the edges of the table? Almost seems a shame to have the cutouts.

It really is disgusting to see the state of that table.
If I ever make a mark on any of my lathe beds, milling machine table or scraper I'll be gutted and very annoyed with myself (even if there's already some light marks from a previous life).
How anybody can be so careless to chew up tables like we see so often is almost beyond me.

I may do one day but as I'm only filling time until the stuff I've ordered for the woodworking fence that will cover the casting I may not rush into it. It does show some signs of welding around the sides already.
The fence bits should arrive tomorrow weather permitting.

There's a slightly newer version of my A10 radial arm drill on the bay now. It's in Doncaster, not very good pics but I believe it is more or less the same base as mine but the newer boxier head.
I'm on with the woodworking table and fence for it now. I have one more filling session on the cast iron table which I will do tomorrow so next weekend I hope to have it all finished

I forgot to put the last bit of JB Weld on the table last week and it takes a few days to fully set so will do that on Monday ready for next week. In the mean time I got the woodworking table and fence finished. I routed the slots out for the full length t-slots, the shorter t-slots and the sacrificial insert, screwed some timber underneath so it could be located and clamped onto the table in a few seconds and removed just as quick if I wanted to use the drill for cutting metal.
Here's the tall fence being used to drill the holes in the timber I used to locate the table and clamp it. It was some reclaimed 4 x 2 studding. I gave it a bit of a plane up afterwards and it came up a treat. I was going to use some angle iron but I didn't have any deep enough plus timber won't scratch the paint as I take it on and off.
And here's the longer t-track and fence being used for drilling panels. The fence can go way back or forwards so I can get right to the centre of a 1200 wide sheet. I'm using a stop on the fence so I can get the hole in the next panel the same.
I could have moved the longer t-track into the middle and done away with the shorter t-track, or got a longer tall fence but I already had the stuff plus I can use the various t-track for clamping and I can shove one fence to the back and use the other etc. this way. There was another reason I did it this way but I forget
There is a bit of fettling to do on the drill, but almost finished.

Have to agree a very happy end for this machine. I like all machines but there’s just something about the 50s/60s ones you just can’t beat. Made in England, made to last
