Thats the range i have been using recently, that little box burns rods without blinking. I keep meaning to see how low a 4mm will run.

They are and I'm sure it works for you but 3.2 electrodes are not really rated to current that low. Yes the position makes a difference to amount of current applied but you need adequate current to actually burn the electrode properly.

Same here i have no experience of Jasic.
Gys getting good press though? Am I over specced looking for 200 amp for my planned work?
I read on other forum gys customer service when something goes went is poor. I was wondering if 5vs 2 Ur warranty with jasic Vs others is actually worth the paper it's on. And anyone with experience?

There may possibly be a requirement to have the jasic serviced at a authorised agent for the 5 years, its a question that pops up occasionally but i don't think i have ever seen a definitive yes or no.

There is always the GYS160, that was the one I was using and liked a lot and should do fine for what you want. The only thing I did not like about it was the manual dial for current was also the On/Off switch so every time you switched off you lost the current setting. For most that is likely not a problem but for me, as I am often kneeling in water, then it can be a pain as when changing a rod I switch the welder off so that I do not get a jolt. That meant I was constantly having to reset the current.
The boatyard here have Parweld 160Amp welders and they like them, not quite as small as the GYS but not far off it.
Having said all that I think the advantage of the GYS200 FV is that the supply voltage can be anything from about 90v to 260v and it will adjust, that could be a benefit when working off generators or differing supplies.

I know what the boxes say I have plenty of them. I also used to write wps's for them on critical procedure work.

I work in a 6th form college in the 3D Design dept. I get to help students with projects that sometimes require welding. I also get to make and repair stuff for the estates team. Not used with a generator as I don't have one at my disposal that is man enough. Mostly welding stuff between 4mm and 6mm and have used 2.5mm 6013 electrodes only so far. Never hit the duty cycle at the amperages I have been using. Use 70 amps for tacking up and then welding at 60 amps mostly. Repaired some stools the other day and because of the thin tubing I had to go down to 50 amps. I could never run 2.5mm rods at 50 amps with my old buzz box at all. Easy to strike an arc and welds very smoothly indeed. From what I've read about them I doubt I'd ever hit the duty cycle running 3.2mm rods one after the other.
I spoke to a guy today about the GYS 200 amp and he quoted me 260 all in for gys 200p? this is a pulse machine, what is the difference between this and the gys e200 apart from a fair few pounds 
im looking something as said to run on generator and suitable for heavy stuff if needed. any one shed light on these two machines. im sort of made my mind up with the gys machines, although local farm shop trying to push the thmeralrc 175se to me today saying theyre a good job?

Not to sure about the 200p this may be an older version. 
The 200 fv is the one to go for powersupply wise will run on 100m extension cable as far as i can remember.

The 200p is not flexible voltage, don't think it has PFC, it has a pot for adjustment of current rather than the panel buttons of the FV and it doesn't have a current display either. Also it is not lift tig like the FV but that probably is of no concern from what you say.
I looked at the 200p but the main thing that put me off was the pot for adjustment as it also acted as the On/Off switch and as I mentioned earlier (regarding the 160p) I like to switch off when changing rods a lot of the time as I am often kneeling in water and don't like getting dirled.
