I almost got it done but with a couple of issues. I wired as shown in the schematic but without the fwd/rev switch.
The first problem was with the external speed control. The motor starts ok and the speed is adjustable but after a few seconds it slows down and if I use the speed control it has some effect but very little. Also, it does not look like it's running at full speed. I changed the option to use the onboard speed control and that seems to work as expected and the motor runs a lot faster at what I estimate is full speed.
The second problem is one of motor torque. For a 2hp motor I can stall it quite easily and it has even less torque at startup. It runs but not satisfactorily.
I hope someone has some ideas.
