I don't mind the dark lines so much, but the jaunty angle is definitely not on

This is the start, next I have picked up a jack, tools and spare wheel winch to fit, just got to get a spare wheel, rubber mats and boot liner ordered too. I will also be wire brushing surface rust on the underside, treating with Vactan then spray with Noxudol, it is pretty good, so I want to keep it that way with the salt we get on the roads.

This is the way I deal with new (to me) cars.

Mine was a lovely car, rotted out on me eventually after 275k. Still went from oil change to oil change without topping up. I had 2 Volvo 240 estates before, they were complete slugs though, the GLT was a flying machine in comparison.

Oh, my GLT was a brilliant car - it would fly along at 20 years old and happily keep up with the younger Mercs and BMWs. Back in the day before so many speed cameras!

I never found ours felt quick, it just got on with it, 104mph was 4000rpm in overdrive top! This was on a French motorway you honour, really, on a trip to Paris. At a quarter of a million miles, the seats & interior was like new, you could have clocked it by half & no one would know, it was that good quality.

I had the 5 speed box rather than the OD edition. I dont know if that helped. I seem to recall it would happily sit at 110 on the autobahns... This was the 2.3 injected high compression naturally aspirated version. I drove a 740 once with the OD and a 2.3 turbo and that seemed pretty nippy too.

My brother had a 940 turbo & had nothing but trouble with it, some were silly faults, one I recall was the clutch pipe was too close to the turbo, cooked the fluid, he worked out what the problem was, but couldn’t get the dealers to understand & do anything about it.

I miss my xc70...2.5t with around 210bhp. It was built like a tank but it did go quite well.

My mate has the V70R...I always wanted one with the burnt orange interior.
