I do have a few packets, can be handy on the mill too
I don't mind the dark lines so much, but the jaunty angle is definitely not ondark lines on old number plate from where it is delaminating

How thick is a calibrated Rizla paper?
This is the way I deal with new (to me) cars. This is the start, next I have picked up a jack, tools and spare wheel winch to fit, just got to get a spare wheel, rubber mats and boot liner ordered too. I will also be wire brushing surface rust on the underside, treating with Vactan then spray with Noxudol, it is pretty good, so I want to keep it that way with the salt we get on the roads.
Oh, my GLT was a brilliant car - it would fly along at 20 years old and happily keep up with the younger Mercs and BMWs. Back in the day before so many speed cameras!Mine was a lovely car, rotted out on me eventually after 275k. Still went from oil change to oil change without topping up. I had 2 Volvo 240 estates before, they were complete slugs though, the GLT was a flying machine in comparison.
I never found ours felt quick, it just got on with it, 104mph was 4000rpm in overdrive top! This was on a French motorway you honour, really, on a trip to Paris. At a quarter of a million miles, the seats & interior was like new, you could have clocked it by half & no one would know, it was that good quality.Oh, my GLT was a brilliant car - it would fly along at 20 years old and happily keep up with the younger Mercs and BMWs. I had the 5 speed box rather than the OD edition. I dont know if that helped. I seem to recall it would happily sit at 110 on the autobahns... This was the 2.3 injected high compression naturally aspirated version. I drove a 740 once with the OD and a 2.3 turbo and that seemed pretty nippy too.I never found ours felt quick, it just got on with it, 104mph was 4000rpm in overdrive top! And if you hadn't had that spare wheel?I know its always good to have a spare wheel but I have a VW T5.1 van which I use everyday, have had it for 12 years, done 250,000 miles and the spare wheel was used for the first time a fortnight ago!!
That air filter has been in there for a long time. I change mine every other oil change at 20k miles, they normally come out looking clean. And why I always do a full oil and filter change on a car I buy, even with a full service history:

I am the same except when I have taken the Defender offroading on dusty tracks. There was a receipt for a filter change 20,000 miles prior and the owner said a family member had serviced it since then - so I suspect just an oil change. The owner worked with old colleagues of mine and seemed honest, though I will get an idea when it is drier out and I doo the oil change. That air filter has been in there for a long time. I;ve taken to doing all filters every oil change. On the BMW I would leave the cabin filters but you have to take them off to get to the air filter! The only one I sometimes leave if i am in a hurry is the fuel filter - on a couple of the cars its in a proper awkward place - i think many cars go a lifetime without a fuel filter change. I just service whenever i reach a 10000 mile spot (i.e. 140k, 150k etc) now as its easy to remember. Having said that, I do the 110 every 6k but thats particularly high mileage now.
