Autopsy complete. #4 conrod is indeed snapped and the piston is split right through the middle.

As above, it's done 10 years and many, many miles since it was remapped.Probably got hot, piston seized, conrod broke.
Injector 4 maybe injecting too much or too little fuel.
Might be worth checking the mapping?
But this is a welding forum?Holts Piston seal isn't going to help that![]()
Ive recnetly had the joys of a snapped rodAutopsy complete. #4 conrod is indeed snapped and the piston is split right through the middle.

There’s no problem swapping those engines, there’s nothing unique about them.is the replacement engine same year and modelsometimes the computer dont like it if they dont match
Pistons only break if the timing is too advanced, generally. Too much fuel - bore wash, too little - melted piston.Probably got hot, piston seized, conrod broke.

How can I check the mapping? It was mapped donkeys years ago and was fine until she ran it low on oil.Pistons only break if the timing is too advanced, generally. Too much fuel - bore wash, too little - melted piston.

And it ran low on oil because? How can I check the mapping? It was mapped donkeys years ago and was fine until she ran it low on oil.
Because it had an oil leak! Well, several actually. She knew it was losing oil but carried on driving it without checking it regularly. And it ran low on oil because?
Because the piston was split.
In fairness I would probably not bother checking it either, but pistons in petrol engines rarely break in half (as opposed to Euro 5 diesel Transits that do it for fun.
