WRAS Paints For Valves

I've been asked to sort out / overhaul a pair of float valves for a potable water application.

I certainly wouldn't want to be drinking from it!

Anyway, i will need to coat the valves in a paint after fully shotblasting to clean base metal.

Does anyone know of a WRAS approved epoxy type paint that can be applied by brush?

I can find powder coating type paints like Jotun Jotaguard VA but that means sending it out.

Happy to do that if there is no other option.

I'm waiting for a specialist valve rebuilding company to come back to me with a price, if it's acceptable, I may outsource it then all paperwork is in order.

New valve is £1500-1800

There are paints used in hospitals and in food facilities, you can jet wash those paints with hot water and chemicals like if for example someone is bleeding from an artery and the blood is sprayed on your walls.
I don't know if it's epoxy based or what but they do exist and are easily available at least over here in Italy, problem is, I can't say go for this specific product or not, both because I don't know the specific name of this type of paint in english, and because surely you have to deal with different codes than us over here.

My hope at least is to have helped you to find at least an idea to what look for .
I think that water tanks paint would be another option

Best ask the folk your doing the job for, for a specification of paint

If you want a competitive quote from a very reputable company, you could try Specialist On Site Services, Pinchbeck, Spalding. That valve looks small enough to send to them.

Unfortunately, i don't think they have a scooby-doo Parm.

They kept calling it a ball valve on the phone, when it got dropped off I was like this is a ballcock!! not a ball valve!

Apparently they had it rebuilt 10 years ago.

Claimed to know all the london based valve companies, i mentioned Bells Engineering and IME, they hadn't heard of either .

I only found it was for potable water today, they first asked what does potable mean? I said drinking water, washing, cleaning. They were like oh yeah.

Apparently they are heating engineers

Perhaps give Resincoat a call and speak to their technical people. They offer a lot of 'hygienic' epoxy paints, and potable can't be a million miles from that.

As it's a float valve it sits in the tank with the water so the whole lot will need to be compliant.

The inside will be painted with a Resimac coating which is designed for the inside of pumps and valves that have experienced erosion/corrosion.

It is WRAS approved.

It could be used on the exterior in theory, but it's not the most easy to apply stuff, it's more of a paste than a paint.

I actually have no idea? Basically they took it to one of my customers, the rewinders, then they said well brad has done lots of mechanical work, so it then got brought over to here - i told them the two other firms but they seemed intent on bringing it.

Maybe they're looking for a cheap price, they won't find that here. If i'm gonna rebuild it, it's gonna have all the paperwork in place, and anything that has paperwork is more expensive.

I guess they/you aren't looking for alternative suggestions but hey ho -

Unless it needs to be purely mechanical because it's miles from an electric supply, or the level must be maintained precisely, a float switch and appropriately sized motorised valve may be cheaper to buy and maintain and potentially more reliable too.

belzona 1341 supermetal glide is what one of our contractors use
its needs to be spotlessly clean and a shot blasted finish is ideal

not cheap though
