Would you take a punt on this bridgeport vari speed milling machine?

My garage attached and is carpeted and centrally heated although it’s only 1 radiator but it takes the chill off so it’s not really cold in there.

The underside of the table on the ways had no rust at all luckily as it was covered in years of old grime and old oil so considering it had been left outside all winter it’s actually done really well,

Il leave it in a bit longer as I am nowhere near ready to put it back on so no rush,

I am going to remove the knee to jet wash it inside and get rid of the years of grime although I have cleaned out 90% already,

The head is all rebuilt but I have not fitted the new spindle bearings yet,

The erskine board I got from “Oilyneil” has been sent to “sorted-uk.com” for exchange as it would only work with rapid traverse button and not potentiometer so after asking around it’s 95% likely to be the board,

I’ve ordered a new way wiper set and the new quill reverse ball trip lever that was snapped as most usually are

I’m going to remove the turret and ram as 1 today then turn it upside down onto the ram and slide the turret off as I think that’s going to be easier and less risknof Jaming it up on the ways using a hoist

I have a lifting eye for the ram head I ordered with the correct 3/4-10 unc thread

Careful as it comes off because (in my case) it was quite tricky to reach the point of balance, in fact, I wasn't even able to discover it.

It came off easily enough

But the last thing you want to do it let the massively heavy cast body drop onto the precision ground bearing surface.

So that was in fact the last thing I did...

They are amazing but not as amazing as the SuperDuke R I "upgraded" from. The RC8 is a big brutal engine that basically just keep on accelerating. Never known an engine like it tbh, all on the throttle too so you can let it rev out on a quarter throttle and unlike a big four, it just sort of goes "meh". Wind the throttle full open and it's like a giant Acme rubber band, blistering acceleration that just keeps getting stronger!

Hey ho. It's now looking lovely in someone else's garage, I'm back on the old Fazer Thou (lurking in the background!). Had that bike for 15 years now, not found anything else that come close to it's all round ability. So the slot in the garage is now occupied by a Bridegport which having taken it apart, is now taking up a HUGE amount of room dotted around various hiding places.

I'm gonna finish off one more bike which was a buy-to-sell RS250 and then get on with the Bridgeport...

always fancied an rs 250, proper beat the pan out of it and make it howl bike.

I’m only lifting the round turret and the ram and with the lifting eye I can slide the ram right back so the eye is directly above the turret so should stop it tilting over

With the whole quill housing and upper assembly I can imagine it’s all over the show

What’s people’s thought on halford enamel spray paint and enamel primer?

I want an easy available straight from the can tough paint,

I used proper enamel machinary paint from paragon paints on my m300 lathe, it was brush on and I done 3 coats but it still chips relatively easy so in my opinion it’s not that great!

I’m tempted to use the Halfords enamel spray? Any used it before

I used Primer tractol 816 topcoat Tekaloid 318.
Brushed on beautifully but availibile in a rattle can too. Takes a few weeks to harden fully but I've attacked parts with screwdrivers and chisels to test and takes the beating.

Removed the ram and turret just now, doesn’t need to come off other than removing old chips from everywhere

Vinegar still working away at the table, the vinegar actually bubbles and foams up over time showing it’s still doing it’s thing

Decided to take the bed out the vinegar, wasn’t going to get much better and I wanted to move things out the way

Jetwashed the knee and ram
Etc then dried them and gave everything a good coat of wd40 for now
