Jaffa?

Try a 1.6mm, I find they give crisper arc starts at lower currents than a 2.4mm.Oh, I forgot I switched to 2.4mm a couple of months ago - easier to wind and I haven't noticed much if any performance difference.
Beta?Tango?
I've got one of those cheap automatic ones and I think it's brilliant.A bit nebulous this one but any wire strippers that cost less than £30 at current prices, automatic plier types mainly. Using "the force" plier types can be had for £13 from B&H. The cheapo automatic ones either gently stroke the insulation or slice it straight through, not good after you have set the final length of a conductor forming part of a tortuous cable run.
Every tool I've ever had from Maplins has been crap multimeter won't even meet, crappy tips on soldering irons and those poxy screwdrivers with boiled sweets for handles.Rolson pliers from Maplins, teeth wore off them bending copper wire...how someone made pliers out of a steel softer than copper is a mystery....

I'll have you know, my Dad got me one of those sets with screwdrivers, soldering iron, multimeter, pliers and so on, even though I've already got a Weller iron, Fluke 10 multimeter, you get the picture. One by one, the Maplin set got lost or broken. You sound surprised, yet you seem to be amassing a decent quantity of Maplins tools

But on the subject of bad pliers, I had some Halfrauds pliers; just fiddling with them on the way home I pulled the grips of the handles, then I noticed the "cutting edge" was about 1 mm across, won't be cutting anything with that I thought. I seem to remember I dropped them down a drain,

But hey, it's the thought that counts.
The only thing I've ever bought from Maplin has been those electronic kits you solder together but as I was new to soldering anything but wires onto miniature light bulbs, I killed most of the components by overheating them.
They had contractors in where my dad works and he found a DeWalt drill above the false ceiling when they'd left.I find a lot of tools while working in roof spaces or above false ceiling tiles, left behind by previous contractors, and they are always complete rubbish.
